Abstract

A stent for repairing post-anastomosis surgery leaks is described. The stent includes an elongated tube having a flared proximal end and a flared distal end, and an intermediate region disposed between those two ends. An inflatable balloon is disposed about the intermediate region. In addition, the elongated tube is coated with a coating.

Claims

1. A stent, comprising:

an elongated tube having a flared proximal end and a flared distal end and an intermediate region disposed therebetween;

a covering disposed over the elongated tube; and

an inflatable balloon disposed about the intermediate region.

2. The stent of claim 1, wherein the elongated tube is woven, braided or knitted.

3. The stent of claim 1, wherein the covering comprises a polymer coating.

4. The stent of claim 1, wherein the stent is self-expanding.

5. The stent of claim 1, further comprising an inflation valve between an inner lumen of the elongated tube and the balloon.

6. The stent of claim 1, further comprising an inflation lumen extending between the proximal end of the elongated tube and a proximal end of the inflatable balloon.

7. The stent of claim 6, further comprising an inflation valve disposed adjacent to a proximal end of the inflation lumen.

8. The stent of claim 1, wherein the balloon is formed from a compliant material.

9. The stent of claim 1, further comprising at least one radiopaque marker band.

10. The stent of claim 1, wherein the balloon extends 360°

around the elongated tube.

11. The stent of claim 1, wherein the balloon extends less than 360°

around the elongated tube.

12. A stent, comprising:

an elongated tube having a flared proximal end region, a flared distal end region, and an intermediate region extending between the proximal end region and the distal end region;

a polymeric covering disposed over the elongated tube; and

an inflatable balloon disposed about and secured to the intermediate region, the inflatable balloon including an inflation valve.

13. The stent of claim 12, wherein the polymeric covering comprises a silicone, styrene isoprene butadiene, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, or polyurethane.

14. The stent of claim 12, wherein the inflation valve extends between an inner surface of the elongated tube and an inner portion of the inflatable balloon.

15. The stent of claim 12, wherein the inflation valve is in fluid communication with an inflation lumen, the inflation lumen extending from a proximal end of the inflatable balloon to the proximal end region of the stent.

16. The stent of claim 12, wherein the inflatable balloon is adjustable in size.

17. A method of repairing post-anastomosis surgery leaks, comprising:

inserting a stent mounted onto an elongated device into a body lumen, the stent comprising;

an elongated tube having a flared proximal end and a flared distal end and an intermediate region disposed therebetween;

a covering disposed over the elongated tube; and

an inflatable balloon disposed about the intermediate region;

advancing the stent through the body lumen;

positioning the stent adjacent to a post-anastomosis surgery leak;

expanding the elongated tube;

inflating the inflatable balloon; and

removing the elongated device.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein inflating the inflatable balloon comprises filling the balloon to achieve a desired size.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein the flared proximal end and the flared distal end are configured to contact the body lumen to prevent passage of food or liquid between the stent and a lumen wall.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein the elongate tube is self-expanding.
