Abstract

An automated movie compilation system is described. An application on a mobile device has a capture component that samples media assets and a data asset synchronizer that synchronizes the media assets over a network with a backend server. The backend server has an asset data synchronizer that stores the media assets in a data store, a movie compiler combining the media assets and further assets into a movie compilation, and a movie server serving the movie compilation for viewing. The mobile application has a compiled movie receiver that receives a movie compilation from the backend server and a movie playback system that plays the compiled movie on the mobile device. Advertisers can upload establishing shot clips for viewing in the movie compilation.

Claims

1. A method of automatically compiling a movie, comprising:

receiving, with a processor, media assets that are stored on a mobile device;

storing, with the processor, the media assets;

combining, with the processor, the media assets with further assets into a movie compilation; and

serving, with the processor, the movie compilation for viewing.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the media assets include at least one of pictures, videos and audio recordings.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the further assets include or are selected based on personal telemetry data that include at least one of geo-location data, mood/feeling designation data, body telemetry monitoring data and contextual information being at least one of calendar events, instant messages and music tracks stored on the mobile device.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, with the processor, at least some of the assets from a mobile device that has a mobile application that samples the assets, the movie compilation being served for viewing on the mobile device.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the mobile application samples metadata for at least one of the assets, that is used for creating the movie compilation and the metadata includes at least one of time and location.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the mobile application samples and generates the assets in the background.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein the mobile application copies the assets from a video or photo album on the mobile device.

8. The method of claim 4, wherein the mobile application has default settings for what kinds of assets are incorporated into a movie compilation, the settings being modifiable by a user to change their use state.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein media assets captured by the mobile application have a default setting of on and media assets captured by a camera application other than with the mobile application have a default setting of off.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein media assets that are used are automatically selected by type.

11. The method of claim 4, wherein the movie compilation includes clips from users other than the user of the mobile device based on relationships between the user of the device with the other users.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

storing, with the processor, a social graph, the relationships being social relationships represented in the social graph.

13. The method of claim 4, wherein the mobile application allows for the user to manually add metadata using a tagging system.

14. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

automatically tagging, with the processor, the assets with the processor.

15. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

receiving, with the processor, a location from the mobile application;

determining, with the processor, a name of the location; and

using, with the processor, the name in the movie compilation.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the movie compilation includes location transitions.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein the movie compilation includes comments.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein the movie compilation uses the season, weather or special event at a particular time.

19. The method of claim 1, wherein the movie compilation is a temporal compilation of clips that are arranged according to the times that they were taken.

20. The method of claim 1, wherein the movie compilation is a montage compilation of clips that are selected based on user created tags and automatically created tags.

21. The method of claim 1, wherein the movie compilation includes a plurality of scenes that are separated by segues.

22. The method of claim 1, wherein the scenes include a title sequence that includes at least a user'"'"'s name.

23. The method of claim 1, wherein the scenes include a credit sequence that includes at least purchase details for music.

24. The method of claim 1, wherein the movie compilation includes a plurality of scenes, each scene including a plurality of clips that are grouped into a scene based on a separate time or location

25. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

selecting, with the processor, an establishing shot for each scene based on locale and setting.

26. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

adding, with the processor, music to each scene.

27. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, with the processor, comments from viewers of the movie compilation; and

evolving, with the processor, the movie compilation in response to the comments.

28. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

recording, with the processor, a theme for the movie compilation; and

selecting, with the processor, at least the further assets for the movie compilation based on the theme.

29. An automated movie compilation system comprising:

a processor;

a computer readable medium connected to the processor;

a data store connected to the processor; and

a set of instructions on the computer readable medium that are executable by the processor, including;

an asset data synchronizer receiving media assets that are stored on a mobile device and storing media assets in the data store;

a movie compiler combining the media assets with further assets into a movie compilation; and

a movie server serving the movie compilation for viewing.

30. A mobile device comprising:

a processor;

a computer readable medium connected to the processor; and

a mobile application comprising a set of instructions on the computer readable medium that are executable by the processor, including;

a capture component that samples media assets;

a data asset synchronizer that synchronizes the media assets over a network with a backend server;

a compiled movie receiver that receives a movie compilation from the backend server, the movie compilation including the media assets and further assets; and

a compiled movie playback system that plays the compiled movie on the mobile device.
