1. A method for stabilizing adjacent vertebrae comprising:
- accessing an area between adjacent vertebrae;
providing an intervertebral implant, the intervertebral implant comprising;
a first endplate having an upper surface and a lower surface, the upper surface configured to engage a first vertebral body, and at least one ramped surface extending from the lower surface;
a second endplate having an upper surface and a lower surface, the lower surface configured to engage a second vertebral body, and at least one ramped surface extending from the upper surface;
a body portion extending from a first end to a second end and positioned between the first and second endplates, the body portion coupled to the first and second endplates;
an articulating element coupled to the body portion; and
a translation member positioned within the body portion, wherein when the translation member is moved from a first position to a second position, the first and second endplate move apart from one anotherpositioning the interverterbral implant in the intervertebral space between adjacent vertebrae.

Abstract
A spacer for separating bones of a joint, the spacer includes a frame having a longitudinal axis, and ramped surfaces. An endplate configured to engage a bone of the joint has ramped surfaces mateable with the ramped surfaces of the frame. When the endplate is moved relative to the frame in a direction along the longitudinal axis of the frame, the endplate is moved in a direction away from the frame to increase the height of the spacer. A second endplate configured to engage a second bone of the joint can be similarly configured.
