Abstract

A method for channel state information (CSI) reporting by a wireless communication device is described. The method includes determining a codebook for a CSI report corresponding to four transmit antenna (4Tx) transmissions from a base station. The codebook has a dual codebook structure. The method also includes generating the CSI report using the codebook. The method further includes transmitting the CSI report to a base station.

Claims

1. A method for channel state information (CSI) reporting, comprising:

determining a codebook for a CSI report corresponding to four transmit antenna (4Tx) transmissions from a base station, wherein the codebook has a dual codebook structure;

generating the CSI report using the codebook; and

transmitting the CSI report to a base station.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the dual codebook structure is a block-diagonal grid of beams structure, wherein a first matrix defines a grid of beams for each polarization, and wherein a second matrix performs beam selection within a beam group and co-phasing.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the codebook is determined based on at least one of a grid of beam resolution, a size of beam groups, an overlap between beam groups, and a co-phasing accuracy.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein each parameter is individually adaptable to form the codebook.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising signaling the codebook using signaling based on at least one of explicit bits, dynamic parameters and semi-static parameters.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein new reporting types are defined to adjust the number of bits spent for a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) or a channel quality indicator (CQI) in various reporting modes.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the method is performed by a wireless communication device, and wherein the wireless communication device determines which of multiple configured codebooks should be used for CSI reporting.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein multiple user channel quality indicator hypotheses remain separate from codebook adaptation.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein multiple user channel quality indicator hypotheses follow codebook adaptation.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising performing codebook subsampling to meet an 11 bit payload constraint for the CSI report.

11. A method for channel state information (CSI) reporting by a base station, comprising:

determining a codebook used by a wireless communication device for a CSI report corresponding to four transmit antenna (4Tx) transmissions from the base station, wherein the codebook has a dual codebook structure;

receiving the CSI report; and

decoding the CSI report using the codebook.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the dual codebook structure is a block-diagonal grid of beams structure, wherein a first matrix defines a grid of beams for each polarization, and wherein a second matrix performs beam selection within a beam group and co-phasing.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the codebook is determined based on at least one of a grid of beam resolution, a size of beam groups, an overlap between beam groups, and a co-phasing accuracy.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein each parameter is individually adaptable to form the codebook.

15. The method of claim 11, further comprising signaling the codebook using signaling based on at least one of explicit bits, dynamic parameters and semi-static parameters.

16. The method of claim 11, wherein new reporting types are defined to adjust the number of bits spent for a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) or a channel quality indicator (CQI) in various reporting modes.

17. The method of claim 11, wherein the wireless communication device determines which of multiple configured codebooks should be used for CSI reporting.

19. The method of claim 11, wherein multiple user channel quality indicator hypotheses follow codebook adaptation.

20. The method of claim 11, further comprising performing codebook subsampling to meet an 11 bit payload constraint for the CSI report.

21. A wireless communication device for channel state information (CSI) reporting, comprising:

a processor;

memory in electronic communication with the processor; and

instructions stored in the memory, the instructions being executable by the processor to;

determine a codebook for a CSI report corresponding to four transmit antenna (4Tx) transmissions from a base station, wherein the codebook has a dual codebook structure;

generate the CSI report using the codebook; and

transmit the CSI report to a base station.

22. The wireless communication device of claim 21, wherein the codebook is determined based on at least one of a grid of beam resolution, a size of beam groups, an overlap between beam groups, and a co-phasing accuracy.

23. The wireless communication device of claim 22, wherein each parameter is individually adaptable to form the codebook.

24. The wireless communication device of claim 21, further comprising instructions executable to signal the codebook using signaling based on at least one of explicit bits, dynamic parameters and semi-static parameters.

25. The wireless communication device of claim 21, further comprising instructions executable to determine which of multiple configured codebooks should be used for CSI reporting.

26. A base station for channel state information (CSI) reporting, comprising:

a processor;

memory in electronic communication with the processor; and

instructions stored in the memory, the instructions being executable by the processor to;

determine a codebook used by a wireless communication device for a CSI report corresponding to four transmit antenna (4Tx) transmissions from the base station, wherein the codebook has a dual codebook structure;

receiving the CSI report; and

decoding the CSI report using the codebook.

27. The base station of claim 26, wherein the codebook is determined based on at least one of a grid of beam resolution, a size of beam groups, an overlap between beam groups, and a co-phasing accuracy.

28. The base station of claim 27, wherein each parameter is individually adaptable to form the codebook.

29. The base station of claim 26, further comprising instructions executable to signal the codebook using signaling based on at least one of explicit bits, dynamic parameters and semi-static parameters.

30. The base station of claim 26, wherein the wireless communication device determines which of multiple configured codebooks should be used for CSI reporting.

31. A wireless communication device for channel state information (CSI) reporting, comprising:

means for determining a codebook for a CSI report corresponding to four transmit antenna (4Tx) transmissions from a base station, wherein the codebook has a dual codebook structure;

means for generating the CSI report using the codebook; and

means for transmitting the CSI report to a base station.

32. A base station for channel state information (CSI) reporting, comprising:

means for determining a codebook used by a wireless communication device for a CSI report corresponding to four transmit antenna (4Tx) transmissions from the base station, wherein the codebook has a dual codebook structure;

means for receiving the CSI report; and

means for decoding the CSI report using the codebook.

33. A computer-program product for channel state information (CSI) reporting, the computer-program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions thereon, the instructions comprising:

code for causing a wireless communication device to determine a codebook for a CSI report corresponding to four transmit antenna (4Tx) transmissions from a base station, wherein the codebook has a dual codebook structure;

code for causing the wireless communication device to generate the CSI report using the codebook; and

code for causing the wireless communication device to transmit the CSI report to a base station.

34. A computer-program product for channel state information (CSI) reporting, the computer-program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions thereon, the instructions comprising:

code for causing a base station to determine a codebook used by a wireless communication device for a CSI report corresponding to four transmit antenna (4Tx) transmissions from the base station, wherein the codebook has a dual codebook structure;

code for causing the base station to receive the CSI report; and

code for causing the base station to decode the CSI report using the codebook.
