1. A method of deploying a prosthetic cardiac valve in a patient, the method comprising:

  • inserting the prosthetic cardiac valve within a dysfunctional mitral valve in the patient'"'"'s heart;

    permitting a distal portion of a valve anchor to self-expand;

    pulling the distal portion of the valve anchor proximally into a plane of the dysfunctional mitral valve;

    permitting a proximal portion of the valve anchor to self-expand on an opposite side of the dysfunctional mitral valve; and

    permitting a central portion of the valve anchor to self-expand within the dysfunctional mitral valve to move the distal and proximal portions of the valve anchor toward each other to compress the dysfunctional mitral valve.
