Abstract

A user who is authorizing a delegate to make a purchase using funds from an account of the user sends information to a payment provider. The information includes a picture of the delegate, along with information such as a merchant name, a maximum amount, a type of purchase, item information, and/or any other transaction limitations/restrictions. The payment provider then transmits this information to the merchant. A one-time code or number may be communicated to the delegate. When the delegate is ready to make a payment with the user account, the delegate gives the delegate'"'"'s name and/or other identifying information to the merchant, along with the payment code. The merchant enters the information and is shown a picture of the delegate. If there is a match, the payment may be submitted for processing. In one embodiment, a photo of the delegate may be taken by the merchant and the image transmitted to the user. The user may then be requested to confirm the delegate as an authorized delegate.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a memory storing information about user accounts, where the information comprises delegate photos and delegate payment codes; and

one or more processors of a payment provider in communication with the memory and operable for performing;

receiving a payment request from a delegate at a merchant point of sale (POS);

determining an account of a payment provider user associated with the delegate based on the payment request;

transmitting a photo of the delegate associated with the account to a merchant device at the merchant POS; and

processing the payment request for the delegate on behalf of the user when the photo matches the delegate at the merchant POS.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the one or more processors is further operable for performing generating a one-time use code and transmitting the one-time use code to the delegate or the user.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the one-time use code is based on information specified by the user.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the information comprises a delegate identifier and use conditions for the delegate.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the use conditions comprise an amount limit and a time limit.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein processing the payment request further comprises receiving a one-time use code from the merchant POS that matches a one-time user code associated with the account of the payment provider user and associated with the delegate.

7. The system of claim 4, wherein the delegate identifier comprises a phone number of a mobile device of the delegate.

8. A non-transitory machine-readable medium comprising a plurality of machine-readable instructions which when executed by one or more processors of a server of a payment provider are adapted to cause the server to perform a method comprising:

receiving a payment request from a delegate at a merchant point of sale (POS);

determining an account of a payment provider user associated with the delegate based on the payment request;

transmitting a photo of the delegate associated with the account to a merchant device at the merchant POS; and

processing the payment request for the delegate on behalf of the user when the photo matches the delegate at the merchant POS.

9. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 8, wherein the method further comprises performing generating a one-time use code and transmitting the one-time use code to the delegate or the user.

10. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 9, wherein the one-time use code is based on information specified by the user.

11. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 10, wherein the information comprises a delegate identifier and use conditions for the delegate.

12. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 11, wherein the use conditions comprise an amount limit and a time limit.

13. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 8, wherein processing the payment request further comprises receiving a one-time use code from the merchant POS that matches a one-time user code associated with the account of the payment provider user and associated with the delegate.

14. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 11, wherein the delegate identifier comprises a phone number of a mobile device of the delegate.

15. A method, comprising:

receiving, electronically by a hardware processor of a payment provider, a payment request from a delegate at a merchant point of sale (POS);

determining, by the payment provider, an account of a payment provider user associated with the delegate based on the payment request;

transmitting, by the payment provider, a photo of the delegate associated with the account to a merchant device at the merchant POS; and

processing, by the payment provider, the payment request for the delegate on behalf of the user when the photo matches the delegate at the merchant POS.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising performing generating, by the provider, a one-time use code and transmitting the one-time use code to the delegate or the user.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the one-time use code is based on information specified by the user.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the information comprises a delegate identifier and use conditions for the delegate.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the use conditions comprise an amount limit and a time limit.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein processing the payment request further comprises receiving, by the payment provider, a one-time use code from the merchant POS that matches a one-time user code associated with the account of the payment provider user and associated with the delegate.

21. The method of claim 18, wherein the delegate identifier comprises a phone number of a mobile device of the delegate.
