Abstract

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, in which an input method editor receives Roman character inputs, identifies keywords for candidate sets of a non-Roman character, and identifies an associated resource location. Upon identifying an associated resource location, associating the resource location with the candidate set of non-Roman characters.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving, at a server having one or more processors, an input in a source language from a computing device, the input representing at least one word of a uniform resource locator (URL) for a desired webpage;

obtaining, at the server, candidate inputs in a target language based on the input, the candidate inputs being transliterations of the input from the source language to the target language;

identifying, at the server, keywords for each candidate input by using each specific candidate input as a prefix for its keywords;

determining, at the server, candidate URLs associated with the keywords for each candidate input; and

outputting, from the server, the candidate URLs and the candidate inputs to the computing device for display of each candidate URL in association with its respective candidate input.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising receiving, at the server, a selected candidate URL from the computing device, the selected candidate URL corresponding to a selection of one of the candidate URLs at the computing device.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, further comprising in response to receiving the selected candidate URL, coordinating, by the server, delivery of the desired webpage indicated by the selected candidate URL to the computing device.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the input corresponds to an input via an address bar of a web browser executing at the computing device.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 4, wherein receiving the candidate URLs and the candidate inputs causes the computing device to display the candidate URLs and the candidate inputs proximate to the address bar of the web browser.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5, further comprising:

ranking, at the server, the candidate URLs to obtain ranked candidate URLs, and

outputting, from the server, the ranked candidate URLs and the candidate inputs to the computing device for display of each ranked candidate URL in association with its respective candidate input.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 6, wherein the ranked candidate URLs are ranked based on their respective quantities of previous user selections.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 6, wherein receiving the ranked candidate URLs and the candidate inputs causes the computing device to display the ranked candidate URLs and the candidate inputs in a specific arrangement via a pop-up window proximate to the address bar of the web browser.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 8, wherein the specific arrangement includes (i) the candidate inputs arranged horizontally below the address bar and (ii) the candidate URLs arranged vertically below the candidate inputs.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the source language is Pinyin and the target language is Chinese.

11. A server having one or more processors configured to perform operations comprising:

receiving an input in a source language from a computing device, the input representing at least one word of a uniform resource locator (URL) for a desired webpage,

obtaining candidate inputs in a target language based on the input, the candidate inputs being transliterations of the input from the source language to the target language;

identifying keywords for each candidate input by using each specific candidate input as a prefix for its keywords;

determining candidate URLs associated with the keywords for each candidate input; and

outputting the candidate URLs and the candidate inputs to the computing device for display of each candidate URL in association with its respective candidate input.

12. The server of claim 11, wherein the operations further comprise receiving a selected candidate URL from the computing device, the selected candidate URL corresponding to a selection of one of the candidate URLs at the computing device.

13. The server of claim 12, wherein the operations further comprise in response to receiving the selected candidate URL, coordinating delivery of the desired webpage indicated by the selected candidate URL to the computing device.

14. The server of claim 11, wherein the input corresponds to an input via an address bar of a web browser executing at the computing device.

15. The server of claim 14, wherein receiving the candidate URLs and the candidate inputs causes the computing device to display the candidate URLs and the candidate inputs proximate to the address bar of the web browser.

16. The server of claim 15, wherein the operations further comprise:

ranking the candidate URLs to obtain ranked candidate URLs, and

outputting the ranked candidate URLs and the candidate inputs to the computing device for display of each ranked candidate URL in association with its respective candidate input.

17. The server of claim 16, wherein the ranked candidate URLs are ranked based on their respective quantities of previous user selections.

18. The server of claim 16, wherein receiving the ranked candidate URLs and the candidate inputs causes the computing device to display the ranked candidate URLs and the candidate inputs in a specific arrangement via a pop-up window proximate to the address bar of the web browser.

19. The server of claim 18, wherein the specific arrangement includes (i) the candidate inputs arranged horizontally below the address bar and (ii) the candidate URLs arranged vertically below the candidate inputs.

20. The server of claim 11, wherein the source language is Pinyin and the target language is Chinese.
