Abstract

An inmate mobile device for communicating with an outsider mobile device is provided. An identity data item, of the device, includes an inmate identifier of an inmate user of the inmate mobile device, a verified data and a restrictions repository. Also included is a media capture module configured to obtain an initial verification data from the inmate user of the inmate mobile device, and an outsider client application configured to receive the initial verification data from the media capture module, determine that the inmate verification data and the inmate verified data match, generate a connection request targeting the outsider mobile device. The connection request includes the inmate identifier of the inmate user and an outsider identifier of an outsider user of the outsider mobile device. The inmate application is also further configured to send the connection request to a server system.

Claims

1. An inmate mobile device for communicating with an outsider mobile device comprising:

an identity data item comprising;

an inmate identifier of an inmate user of the inmate mobile device,

a verified data, and

a restrictions repository;

a media capture module configured to;

obtain an initial verification data from the inmate user of the inmate mobile device; and

an inmate application configured to;

receive the initial verification data from the media capture module,

determine that the inmate verification data and the inmate verified data match,

generate a connection request targeting the outsider mobile device comprising;

the inmate identifier of the inmate user, and

an outsider identifier of an outsider user of the outsider mobile device, and

send the connection request to a server system.

2. The inmate mobile device as recited in claim 1 wherein the restrictions repository is configured to prevent generation of the connection request based on pre-determined criteria.

3. The inmate mobile device as recited in claim 2 wherein the pre-determined criteria includes an inmate being punitively prevented from communicating with outsiders.

4. The inmate mobile device as recited in claim 3 wherein the inmate is being punitively prevented from communicating with outsiders for specific portions of a day.

5. The inmate mobile device as recited in claim 2 wherein the pre-determined criteria includes the inmate attempting to communicate with individuals on a do not contact list.

6. A system for facilitating communication between an outsider mobile device and an inmate mobile device comprising:

an identity repository configured to store;

an inmate identity data item comprising an inmate identifier and an inmate verified data, and

an outsider identity data item comprising an outsider identifier and an outsider verified data;

an authentication module configured to;

receive, from the inmate mobile device, a connection request comprising the inmate identifier, the outsider identifier, and an inmate verification data,

retrieve the inmate verified data from the inmate identity data item using the inmate identifier, and

determine that the inmate verification data and the inmate verified data match; and

a media server configured to;

generate a connection between the outsider mobile device and the inmate mobile device.

7. The system as recited in claim 6 further comprising a restrictions repository wherein the restrictions repository is configured to prevent generation of the connection request based on pre-determined criteria.

8. The system as recited in claim 7 wherein the pre-determined criteria includes an inmate being punitively prevented from communicating with outsiders.

9. The system as recited in claim 8 wherein the inmate is being punitively prevented from communicating with outsiders for specific portions of a day.

10. The system as recited in claim 7 wherein the pre-determined criteria includes the inmate attempting to communicate with individuals on a do not contact list.

11. The system as recited in claim 6 wherein the connection is flagged for follow-up investigation if a warrant check of the outsider ID indicates the possibility of outstanding warrants.

12. A system for communicating with an inmate mobile device comprising:

a media capture module configured to;

obtain an initial verification data from an outsider user of an outsider mobile device; and

an outsider application configured to;

receive the initial verification data from the media capture module,

generate a connection request targeting an inmate mobile device comprising;

an inmate identifier of the inmate user,

an outsider identifier of the outsider user of the outsider mobile device, and

the initial verification data, and

send the connection request to a server system.

13. The system as recited in claim 12 wherein the connection request is flagged for follow-up investigation if a warrant check of the outsider identifier indicates the possibility of outstanding warrants.
