Abstract

An ostomy armor includes a rigid base plate that covers a stoma of a patient and at least a portion of a waste collection bag attached to the stoma. The ostomy armor further includes a plate pad attached to the back surface of the rigid base plate. The ostomy armor also includes a belt that to hold the ostomy armor on the patient.

Claims

1. A medical apparatus, comprising:

a rigid base plate configured to cover a stoma of a user and at least a portion of a waste collection bag attached to the stoma;

a plate pad coupled to a back surface of the rigid base plate; and

a belt configured to hold the medical apparatus on the user.

2. The medical apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a second rigid base plate configured to cover a second stoma of the user; and

a second plate pad coupled to a back surface of the second rigid base plate, wherein

the belt is configured to hold the second rigid base plate on the user, and wherein

portions of the belt are fitted into slits on the second rigid base plate.

3. A medical apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a second rigid base plates, the rigid base plate and the second rigid base plate are aligned vertically to each other, wherein the plate pad further coupled to a back surface of the second base plates.

4. The medical apparatus of claim 1, wherein the belt further comprises a waist pad at a portion of the belt, the waist pad comprises a rigid backing and a soft cover.

5. The medical apparatus of claim 1, wherein portions of the belt are fitted into slits on the rigid base plate

6. The medical apparatus of claim 1, wherein the belt further comprises a belt pad at a portion of the belt.

7. The medical apparatus of claim 3, wherein portions of the belt are fitted into slits of the plate pad.

8. The medical apparatus of claim 1, wherein the belt further comprises a buckle at a portion of the belt, wherein the buckle is configured to lock and release the belt on the user, and wherein the buckle is adjustable for lengthening or shortening the belt.

9. The medical apparatus of claim 1, wherein the rigid base plate comprises one or more layers of composite materials.

10. The medical apparatus of claim 1, wherein a face of the rigid base plate comprises one or more of a finish and a marking.

11. The medical apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plate pad comprises a cutout shaped to fit the waste collection bag.

12. The medical apparatus of claim 1, wherein the base plate is shaped substantially to a shape corresponding to a portion of a body of the user where the stoma is located.

13. A method of making an ostomy apparatus, comprising:

preparing a rigid base plate configured to cover a stoma of a user and at least a portion of a waste collection bag attached to the stoma;

attaching a plate pad to a back of the rigid base plate; and

connecting a belt to the ostomy apparatus.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the preparing the rigid base plate comprises

layering one or more composite materials;

and

shaping and cutting the layered composite materials to a shape corresponding to a portion of a body of the user where the stoma is located.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the preparing the rigid base plate further comprises one or more of finishing and marking the shaped composite materials.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein layered composite materials comprises alternating layers of carbon fiber and Kevlar.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the preparing the rigid base plate further comprises applying to the one or more layers of composite materials and vacuuming the layered composite materials.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the belt comprises a waist pad at a portion of the belt, the waist pad comprises a rigid backing and a soft cover.

19. A medical apparatus, comprising a waste wick, the waste wick comprises an absorbent material, wherein the waste wick is shaped to fit between a flange and a pouch of a waste collection bag, wherein the flange comprises a skin barrier configured to attach to a stoma of a user, collect waste material from the stoma, and fill the pouch with the waste material, and wherein the absorbent material is configured to absorb the waste material that leaked from the waste collection bag.

20. The medical apparatus of claim 19, further comprising a tape ring attached to an opening of the waste wick, wherein the tape ring is configured to be attached the flange of the pouch.

21. The medical apparatus of claim 19, wherein the medical apparatus is configured to fit with an ostomy armor worm by the user outside of the medical apparatus and the waste collection bag.

22. A medical apparatus, comprising:

a rigid plate face configured to cover a waste collection bag for a stoma of a user, the rigid base plate comprises a raised channel, a side plate surrounding the raised channel, and a protective area below the raised channel; and

a plate pad coupled to the side plate of a back of the rigid plate face, the plate pad comprises a cutout at the raised channel portion providing access to a back of the raised channel.

23. The medical apparatus of claim 22, wherein the rigid plate face is made from a composite material.

24. The medical apparatus of claim 22, wherein the protective area is made from a flexible material, wherein the raised channel and the side plate is made from a rigid material, and wherein the protective area is bonded to the raised channel and the side plate.

25. The medical apparatus of claim 22, wherein the medical apparatus is configured to fit with an ostomy armor worn by the user outside of the medical apparatus, and wherein the ostomy armor covers substantially the raised channel and the side plate.

26. The medical apparatus of claim 22, wherein the rigid plate face is made using a three-dimensional mold, and wherein rigid plate face is at least partially vacuum formed from the mold.

27. The medical apparatus of claim 22, wherein the medical apparatus is configured to fit the waste collection bag in the back of the raised channel and a back of the protective area.

28. The medical apparatus of claim 22, the rigid plate face is shaped substantially to a shape corresponding to a portion of a body of the user where the stoma is located.
