Abstract

In particular embodiments, a computing device determines a social context of each of one or more images to provide for display to a user. The computing device determines a relevance of each of the social contexts to the user. The computing device provides for display to the user one or more of the images based at least in part on the relevance of the social context of each image to the user.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

by a computing device, determining a social context of each of one or more images to provide for display to a user;

by the computing device, determining a relevance of each of the social contexts to the user;

by the computing device, providing for display to the user one or more of the images based at least in part on the relevance of the social context of each image to the user.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the social context of an image is determined based at least in part on metadata associated with the image.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the metadata comprises one or more of the following:

data automatically generated by a social-networking system;

data generated by one or more users of the social-networking system; and

data generated by a source of the image.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the social context of an image is determined based at least in part on information associated with the image in a social graph of a social-networking system.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the social context of an image is determined based at least in part on metadata associated with the image and information associated with the image in a social graph of a social-networking system.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the relevance of a social context to the user is based at least in part on information associated with the user in a social graph of a social-networking system.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the images are provided for display to the user in response to the user selecting a display filter associated with one or more of the social contexts.

8. One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying software that is operable when executed to:

determine a social context of each of one or more images to provide for display to a user;

determine a relevance of each of the social contexts to the user;

provide for display to the user one or more of the images based at least in part on the relevance of the social context of each image to the user.

9. The media of claim 8, wherein the social context of an image is determined based at least in part on metadata associated with the image.

10. The media of claim 9, wherein the metadata comprises one or more of the following:

data automatically generated by a social-networking system;

data generated by one or more users of the social-networking system; and

data generated by a source of the image.

11. The media of claim 8, wherein the social context of an image is determined based at least in part on information associated with the image in a social graph of a social-networking system.

12. The media of claim 8, wherein the social context of an image is determined based at least in part on metadata associated with the image and information associated with the image in a social graph of a social-networking system.

13. The media of claim 8, wherein the relevance of a social context to the user is based at least in part on information associated with the user in a social graph of a social-networking system.

14. The media of claim 8, wherein the images are provided for display to the user in response to the user selecting a display filter associated with one or more of the social contexts.

15. A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

a memory coupled to the processors comprising instructions executable by the processors, the processors operable when executing the instructions to;

determine a social context of each of one or more images to provide for display to a user;

determine a relevance of each of the social contexts to the user;

provide for display to the user one or more of the images based at least in part on the relevance of the social context of each image to the user.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the social context of an image is determined based at least in part on metadata associated with the image.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the metadata comprises one or more of the following:

data automatically generated by a social-networking system;

data generated by one or more users of the social-networking system; and

data generated by a source of the image.

18. The system of claim 15, wherein the social context of an image is determined based at least in part on information associated with the image in a social graph of a social-networking system.

19. The system of claim 15, wherein the relevance of a social context to the user is based at least in part on information associated with the user in a social graph of a social-networking system.

20. The system of claim 15, wherein the images are provided for display to the user in response to the user selecting a display filter associated with one or more of the social contexts.
