Abstract

Aspects of the disclosure relate to tracking user engagement with an interface. In one aspect, interaction of a user with a user interface can be detected and, in response to such interaction, it can be determined if the user interface was updated. In a scenario in which it is determined that the user interface was updated, an impression metric indicative of engagement of the user with the user interface can be updated. The updated metric can permit the tracking of user engagement.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

detecting interaction of a user with a user interface;

determining that the user interface was updated in response to the interaction; and

updating an impression metric indicative of engagement of the user with the user interface in response to the user interface being updated.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising supplying the impression metric to an analytics platform configured to analyze user engagement with the user interface.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein detecting interaction of the user with the user interface comprises detecting an event indicative of the interaction of the user with the user interface, and wherein the user interface is a web-based interface.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining that the user interface was updated in response to the interaction comprises determining that content rendered at the user interface was updated in response to the interaction.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein determining that content rendered at the user interface was updated comprises determining that new content was published at the user interface in response to the interaction.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein determining that content rendered at the user interface was updated comprises determining that new content was advertised at the user interface in response to the interaction.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein determining that content rendered at the user interface was updated comprises determining that a notification was rendered at the user interface in response to the interaction.

8. The method of claim 3, wherein the determining that the user interface was updated in response to the interaction comprises determining that a rule associated with the event is satisfied.

9. The method of claim 3, wherein the web-based interface is a web page window.

10. The method of claim 3, wherein the web-based interface is a web browser tab.

11. A method, comprising:

receiving a first web page;

detecting interaction of a user with the first web page;

determining that the first web page was updated in response to the interaction; and

updating an impression metric indicative of engagement of the user with the web page in response to the web page being updated.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising receiving a second web page, wherein detecting interaction of a user with the first web page comprises detecting an interaction with the first web page after receiving the second web page.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein detecting interaction of the user with the first web page comprises detecting a function call indicative of the interaction of the user with the first web page.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein detecting interaction of a user with the first web page comprises detecting interaction of a user with the first web page after a minimum predetermined time has elapsed.

15. The method of claim 11, further comprising supplying the impression metric to an analytics platform configured to analyze user engagement with the web page.

16. A method, comprising:

detecting interaction of a user with a user interface;

determining that the user interface was updated in response to the interaction;

updating an impression metric indicative of engagement of the user with the user interface in response to the user interface being updated; and

supplying the impression metric to an analytics platform configured to analyze user engagement with the user interface.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein updating the impression metric comprises updating a tally of interactions of the user with the user interface.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein detecting interaction of the user with the user interface comprises detecting an event indicative of the interaction of the user with the user interface, and wherein the user interface is a web-based interface.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein updating the impression metric comprises updating an event history associated with the user.

20. The method of claim 16, further comprising receiving a recommendation from the analytics platform, wherein the recommendation is based on the impression metric.
