Abstract

An Intelligent Internet system having the capacity to discover, acquire, organize, store, and make accessible knowledge about things of interest to users and to help users more efficiently interact with these things in a rich variety of ways. The Intelligent Internet system provides users with a personalized interface that dynamically adapts to each user'"'"'s interests and context. This interface provides users with direct access to “knowledge” about things that humans or machines can uniquely sense, recognize, name, understand and interact with, whether real or imagined. Users can access the knowledge stored in the Intelligent Internet system to find, learn about and select products and services; communicate with family, friends, colleagues, classmates, customers and suppliers; learn about things they encounter in their environment, make decisions about them, consume and share content related to them and perform transactions.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for acquiring and storing knowledge about entities, the method comprising:

storing metadata about entities in a metadata database, the metadata database comprising lists of entities and tables mapping relationships between the entities;

storing knowledge about the entities and relationships between the entities in a knowledge graph database, wherein the knowledge graph database comprises factual knowledge data about entities, relationship knowledge data between entities, and behavioral knowledge data between entities;

storing smart content records about each of the entities in a smart content database, each of the smart content records having a component comprising the source of the content and a component comprising knowledge about the content in the smart content record; and

providing knowledge to a user useful for interacting with entities.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving access to content from content resources over a network.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising transforming source content from content resources into smart content.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising recognizing symbolic objects, wherein the symbolic objects comprise content that represents entities, embedded in content, and performing one or more methods for named entity recognition and one or more image recognition methods.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising retrieving factual knowledge about entities by:

surveying knowledge graph nodes to identify node properties set at null;

requesting a list of content resources listed in the metadata as having factual knowledge about entities; and

storing factual knowledge in node properties in the knowledge graph database and fields in the smart content database.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

learning additional contextual knowledge about relationships among entities, comprising;

examining and parsing content from open linked content resources, RSS feed content resources, Web page content resources and other content resources in order to discover relationships among entities; and

updating the system'"'"'s knowledge graph database by adding new nodes, new node properties, new relationships and new relationship properties.

7. The method of claim 1, further having knowledge about entities stored in the knowledge graph database, the knowledge encoded in the form of nodes, wherein each node represents an entity and each node is capable of storing a plurality of entity properties for that entity;

and in the form of relationships among nodes, each relationship capable of storing a plurality of entity relationship properties for that relationship; and

further including;

metadata templates to define node and relationship properties, including;

entity properties and entity relationship properties, with the set of valid entity properties for each entity varying according to the type of entity, and the set of valid relationship properties varying according to the pairing of the two entity types.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising including entity properties in the knowledge graph database designated as entity markers, such set of entity markers varying according to the entity type of the entity represented in an entity node.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein each smart content record in the smart content database has components including:

a smart content metadata component comprised of content properties rationalized according to tables stored in the metadata database;

a smart content knowledge map component comprising encoded knowledge about entities related to the smart content, including the relationships they have with the smart content and/or other entities;

a smart content summaries component comprised of text capturing the gist of the smart content; and

a smart content object component, each such smart content object having embedded hidden tags encoding knowledge about the entities related to the symbolic objects embedded in the smart content.

10. A computer-implemented method for acquiring, storing, and deploying knowledge about messages, the method comprising,

enhancing messages to include a record component having embedded knowledge about entities associated with the content component in the messages and knowledge about the content type of the message;

generating smart message summary records comprised of a component having the content of the messages, a component having a summary of the content and a component having knowledge about the content, such knowledge including knowledge about the entities referred to in the message content or associated with the message content and relationships between these entities and the message content and with or among each other;

such messages comprising content generated by computer implemented methods for recognizing new content in the smart content database, whether generated by a user or computer methods, of interest to one or more users;

receiving an indication of interest from a user in one or more types of content associated with an entity; and

causing delivery of a smart message record for display with a user device.

The method of claim 10, further comprising processing system-generated smart messages, including smart messages generated by posting or updating a record in a smart content database and smart messages generated by posting or updating entity nodes, entity properties, entity relationship nodes, and entity relationship properties.

12. The method of claim 10, further comprising storing smart messages in a smart messages database, wherein each record in the database has record components including:

a smart message metadata component useful for managing the message;

a smart message permissions component useful for managing access to the message;

a smart message knowledge map component that contains knowledge about entities related to the message;

a smart message summaries component useful for communicating the gist of the message to a user; and

a smart message knowledge enhanced object component, wherein the original message is enhanced to include hidden embedded knowledge tags for each symbolic object embedded in the message.

The method of claim 10, further comprising subscribing networked devices associated with a user to smart message summaries related to specific items of interest to the user, including specific entities, collections of entities, content types, and collections of content belonging to such content types.

14. A computer-implemented method for selecting and interacting with an entity of interest to the user, the method comprising:

receiving an indication of interest in a symbolic object, such symbolic object comprising content representing an entity,

accessing an intelligent search agent operable to access and display knowledge useful for disambiguating among entities matching user specified search terms and associated with the symbolic object,

receiving an indication of a selection of an entity of interest by a user from among a list of ambiguous entities,

accessing an intelligent interaction agent operable to access and present a list of interaction methods valid for the selected entity and

receiving a desired method for interacting with an entity of interest to the user.

The computer implemented method of claim 14, further comprising providing a visual disambiguation pane that displays possible entities matching a user search request with such entities organized into broad entity groups and more specific into entity types and displaying properties useful for disambiguating among such possibly matching entities.

The computer implemented method of claim 14, further comprising providing a visual tag comprised of a consistent interaction symbol operable for requesting knowledge about how to interact with the entity represented by the symbolic object, each such interaction symbol being displayed adjacent to or inside of a symbolic object representing a smart content entity.

17. The computer implemented method of claim 14, further comprising causing the display of:

one or more panels containing controls, that when activated by a user indication, provide options to the user for selecting an entity;

a disambiguation panel that when activated by a user indication of interest in a symbolic object, pops up to display a list of entities recognized in the content containing the symbolic object, plus knowledge about these entities, including entity names, the entity types for each entity in the list and knowledge markers for each entity in the list; and

methods for the user to select an entity of Interest from the knowledge map list for further interaction; and

an interaction panel allowing the user to interact with an entity.

18. The computer implemented method of claim 14, further comprising:

recognizing untagged symbolic objects in content, including images content;

associating such symbolic objects with possible entities;

asynchronously sending a list of such entities and knowledge about these entities to the user interface, such knowledge about the entities, including entity names, the entity types for each entity in the list and knowledge markers for each entity in the list;

asynchronously activating a popup entities disambiguation panel in the user interface, such panel displaying the list of possibly matching entities and knowledge about the entities, recognized in the untagged content, and

providing for the user to select an entity of interest in the entities map panel for further interaction.

19. The computer implemented method of claim 14, further comprising accessing, by the intelligent agent, knowledge about a selected entity, including knowledge stored locally and knowledge stored remotely.

The computer implemented method of claim 14, further comprising interacting with entities, such entities including symbolic objects smart content related to an entity, and such interactions including consuming and sharing smart content related to an entity, learning about the entity, reacting to an entity and connecting with resources related to an entity

21. The computer implemented method of claim 14, wherein each specific entity interaction is implemented by an integrated smart interaction module;

each of the smart interaction modules having;

a user interface template;

logic required for such interactions performed either on the local user'"'"'s device or on one or more remote network connected servers; and

logic for creating, reading, updating, and deleting access to data required for the interactions.

22. The computer implemented method of claim 14, further comprising displaying smart content from the smart content database corresponding to an entity in the knowledge graph, displaying an interaction symbol in the user interface adjacent to the title of the smart content object;

and activating an intelligent interaction agent upon indication of a selection of the interaction symbol by the user.

23. The computer implemented method of claim 14, further comprising an intelligent agent operable for requesting knowledge from the knowledge graph about valid interaction options for a specific symbolic object;

displaying a menu of interaction options;

receiving an indication of a selection of an interaction option; and

opening a smart interaction module for the selected Interaction option.

24. An electronic device comprising:

a processor;

a display;

memory; and

one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for;

displaying a plurality of visual User Interface (UI) containers with at least one of the UI containers operable to interact with entities of interest to a user;

receiving inputs from a user;

dynamically managing the states of the UI panels in response to user inputs; and

accessing knowledge about interactions valid for the entity of interest via an intelligent interaction agent.

25. The electronic device of claim 24, further comprising instructions for causing a visual interface having:

one visual page, comprised of visual panels of consistent size, style, and location, wherein each of the visual panels is operable to display a plurality of content panes; and

a state machine that responds to stored and dynamic inputs from users, stored and dynamic contextual inputs from the user'"'"'s device, and stored and dynamic inputs from remote systems connected by a communication network, causing the interface to dynamically adapt in real time.
