Abstract

Methods, systems, computer readable media, and apparatuses are disclosed for providing event messages to a user. The event messages may include video data or a link to video of the event. In some variations, a user or content provider may define criteria for the event messages that are to be displayed to the user. The event messages may be stored so that a user may be able to browse through the stored event messages and decide when to view the video of the event. Upon a user'"'"'s selection of the event message, the video of the event may be displayed to the user on the same display device or another display device.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

registering a first device for event messaging;

registering a second device for event messages, wherein both the first device and the second device are associated with a user;

receiving information identifying the user'"'"'s request to be notified of an occurrence of a predetermined event in content;

determining that the predetermined event has occurred in the content;

generating an event message that indicates of the occurrence of the predetermined event in the content, wherein the event message includes an option to initiate a portion of the content during which the predetermined event occurred;

transmitting the event message to the first device;

transmitting the event message to the second device;

receiving a request for the portion of the content; and

transmitting, to at least one of the first device or the second device, the portion of the content to the device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein determining that the predetermined event has occurred in the content includes determining that event messaging criteria matches data describing one or more content segments of the content.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the event messaging criteria is for a fantasy team of the user, and the portion of the content includes a composite video that represents events that occurred in one or more sporting games that contributed to a score of the fantasy team, and wherein the method further comprises:

creating the composite video from video segments of the one or more sporting games.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein transmitting the event message to the first device includes transmitting the event message via an e-mail message, a short messaging service (SMS) message, a message conforming to a protocol suitable for instant messaging, or a message posted to a social media account of the user.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the request for the portion of the content indicates which device is to receive the portion of the content, and wherein the method further comprises:

transmitting the portion of the content only to the first device or the second device in accordance with request for the portion of the content.

6. A method, comprising:

registering a device for event messaging;

receiving information identifying a user'"'"'s request to be notified of an occurrence of a predetermined event in content;

determining that the predetermined event has occurred in the content;

generating an event message that indicates of the occurrence of the predetermined event in the content, wherein the event message includes an option to initiate a portion of the content during which the predetermined event occurred;

transmitting the event message to the device;

receiving a request for the portion of the content; and

transmitting the portion of the content to the device.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein determining that the predetermined event has occurred in the content includes determining that event messaging criteria matches data describing one or more content segments of the content.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the event messaging criteria is for a fantasy team of the user, and the portion of the content includes a composite video that represents events that occurred in one or more sporting events that contributed to a score of the fantasy team, and wherein the method further comprises:

creating the composite video from video segments of the one or more sporting events.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein transmitting the event message to the device includes transmitting the event message to both the device and another device.

10. The method of claim 6, wherein transmitting the event message to the device includes transmitting the event message via an e-mail message, a short messaging service (SMS) message, a message conforming to a protocol suitable for instant messaging, or a message posted to a social media account of the user.

11. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

adding the event message to an event message log;

receiving a request to view the event message log;

receiving a selection of a logged event message from the event message log, wherein the logged event message corresponds to a content segment; and

transmitting the content segment to the device.

12. A method, comprising:

receiving information identifying a user'"'"'s request to be notified of an occurrence of a predetermined event in content;

determining that the predetermined event has occurred in the content; and

generating an event message to alert the user of the occurrence of the predetermined event in the content, wherein the event message includes an option to initiate a portion of the content during which the predetermined event occurred.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein determining that the predetermined event has occurred in the content includes determining that event messaging criteria matches data describing one or more content segments of the content.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

transmitting the event message to one or more devices registered by the user to receive event messages.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein transmitting the event message to the one or more devices registered to the user includes transmitting the event message via an e-mail message, a short messaging service (SMS) message, a message conforming to a protocol suitable for instant messaging, or a message posted to a social media account of the user.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein transmitting the event message to the one or more devices registered to the user includes transmitting the event message to a first user device and a second user device.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the user device is in communication with a television being watched by the user and the second user device is a tablet computing device, mobile computing device or personal computer device that is being used by the user.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the one or more devices registered to the user includes a first device and a second device, wherein the portion of the content includes a video segment, and the method further comprises:

receiving user input that represents the user'"'"'s selection of the event message; and

responsive to receiving the user input, transmitting the video segment to the first device or the second device.

19. The method of claim 14, wherein the event messaging criteria is for a fantasy team of the user, and the portion of the content includes a composite video that represents events that occurred in one or more sporting events that contributed to a score of the fantasy team, and wherein the method further comprises:

creating the composite video from video segments of the one or more sporting events.

20. The method of claim 14, further comprising:

adding the event message to an event message log;

receiving a request to view the event message log;

receiving a selection of a logged event message from the event message log, wherein the logged event message corresponds to a content segment; and

transmitting the content segment to the one or more devices registered by the user.
