Abstract

Some embodiments of the invention provide a mobile device with multiple access modes. The device in some embodiments has at least two access modes, a primary access mode and a secondary access mode, that provide different restrictions for accessing the applications and/or data that are stored on the device. In some embodiments, the primary access mode of the device provides unfettered access to all of the device'"'"'s applications and/or data that are available to a user, while its secondary access mode provides access to a limited set of applications and/or data that are stored on the device. In some embodiments, the device provides tools to select applications for the secondary access mode.

Claims

1. A non-transitory machine readable medium storing a program that when executed by at least one processing unit provides a graphical user interface (GUI) of a mobile device, the GUI comprising:

a display area for displaying applications that are accessible in a primary access mode; and

an access mode settings menu comprising (i) a first affordance to enable or disable a secondary access mode on the mobile device and (ii) a plurality of affordances to uniformly enable or disable different groups of applications for the secondary access mode, wherein each group of applications that is disabled is not accessible when the mobile device operates in the secondary access mode.

2. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 1, wherein the different groups of applications are different categories or genres of applications.

3. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 2, wherein the different categories comprises a game category and at least one of a social category and a video category.

4. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 1, secondary access mode is inaccessible when the secondary mode is disabled with the first affordance.

5. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 1, wherein the access mode settings menu comprises a second affordance, for each different application, to individually enable or disable the application for the secondary access mode.

6. A non-transitory machine readable medium storing a program that when executed by at least one processing unit provides a graphical user interface (GUI) of a mobile device, the GUI comprising:

a display area for displaying applications that are accessible in a primary access mode; and

an access mode settings menu comprising (i) a first affordance to enable or disable a secondary access mode on the mobile device and (ii) a second affordance, for each different application, to enable or disable that application for the secondary access mode, wherein each application that is disabled with the second affordance is not accessible when the mobile device operates in the secondary access mode.

The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 6, wherein the setting menu further comprises a plurality of affordances to uniformly enable or disable different groups of applications for the secondary access mode, wherein each group of applications that is disabled is not accessible when the mobile device operates in the secondary access mode.

8. A non-transitory machine readable medium storing a program that when executed by at least one processing unit provides a graphical user interface (GUI) of a mobile device, the GUI comprising:

a first display area to display a plurality of icons for launching different applications in a primary access mode; and

a secondary access mode menu comprising a second display area that mirrors the first display area to enable or disable one or more of the applications for the secondary access mode, wherein each applications that is disabled with the second display area is not accessible when the mobile device operates in the secondary access mode.

9. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 8, wherein the menu further comprises an affordance to enable or disable a secondary access mode on the mobile device.

10. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 8, where the different applications are associated with different age groups, wherein the menu further comprises an affordance to enable or disable a group of application based one or more the different age groups.

11. A method of providing a graphical user interface (GUI) of a mobile device, the method comprising:

defining a display area for displaying applications that are accessible in a primary access mode; and

defining an access mode settings menu comprising (i) a first affordance to enable or disable a secondary access mode on the mobile device and (ii) a plurality of affordances to uniformly enable or disable different groups of applications for the secondary access mode, wherein each group of applications that is disabled is not accessible when the mobile device operates in the secondary access mode.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the different groups of applications are different categories or genres of applications.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the different categories comprises a game category and at least one of a social category and a video category.

14. The method of claim 11, secondary access mode is inaccessible when the secondary mode is disabled with the first affordance.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the access mode settings menu comprises a second affordance, for each different application, to individually enable or disable the application for the secondary access mode.
