1. A programmable driver for driving a solid state lighting device, the driver comprising:

  • a processing circuit configured to determine a voltage reference signal (Vref) based on a nominal current setting and a predetermined power limit;

    a voltage feedback loop configured to receive the voltage reference signal and to determine a difference between a reference voltage indicated by the voltage reference signal and a drive voltage of the solid state lighting device; and

    a power stage configured to adjust a maximum output voltage of the driver to enable driving the solid state lighting device based at least in part on the determined difference between the reference voltage and the drive voltage of the solid state lighting device provided by the voltage feedback loop,wherein the predetermined power limit indicates a maximum output power stage is able to deliver.
