Abstract
Technologies are generally described for environment-dependent dynamic range control for gesture recognition. In some examples, user environment including, but not limited to, location, device size, virtual or physical display size, is detected and gesture control range adjusted according to the detected environment. In other examples, a controller user interface or dynamic range status indicator may be adjusted based on the modified gesture recognition range control.

31. A method to detect and modify a dynamic range of a gesture input in an electronic device, the method comprising:

detecting an environment of a user of an electronic device capable of gesture recognition and touch recognition, wherein the environment comprises one of a public location and a private location; receiving an input that comprises one of a gesture input or a touch input; determining a dynamic range of the received input based on the detected environment and whether the received input is the gesture input or the touch input; and adjusting a size of a displayed recognition control user interface UI based on the determined dynamic range of the received input. - View Dependent Claims (32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40)

41. An apparatus to detect and modify a dynamic range of a gesture input, the apparatus comprising:

a display configured to detect touch input; an image capture device coupled to the display; and a processor coupled to the display and the image capture device, the processor configured to; detect an environment of the apparatus when in operation, wherein the environment comprises one of a public location and a private location; receive an input comprising one of the touch input through the display or a gesture input through the image capture device; determine a dynamic range of the received input based on the detected environment and whether the received input is the gesture input or the touch input; in response to a determination that the received input is the gesture input, determine an acceptable gesture size based on the detected environment, wherein the acceptable gesture size is one of a small gesture size and a large gesture size; adjust the dynamic range of the received input based on the acceptable gesture size; and adjust a size of a displayed recognition control user interface (UI) based on the adjusted dynamic range of the received input. - View Dependent Claims (42, 43, 44, 45)

46. An input recognition module configured to be coupled to a display and to detect and modify a dynamic range of an input, the input recognition module comprising:

a memory configured to store instructions; a processor coupled to the memory, wherein the processor is configured to execute the instructions, which when executed configure the processor to; detect an environment of the display when in operation, wherein the environment comprises one of a public location and a private location; receive an input comprising one of the touch input through the display or a gesture input through an image capture device in a vicinity of the display; determine a dynamic range of the received input based on the detected environment and whether the received input is the gesture input or the touch input; in response to a determination that the received input is the gesture input, determine an acceptable gesture size based on the detected environment, wherein the acceptable gesture size is one of a small gesture size and a large gesture size; adjust the dynamic range of the received input based on the acceptable gesture size; and adjust a size of a displayed recognition control user interface (UI) based on the adjusted dynamic range of the received input. - View Dependent Claims (47, 48, 49, 50)
