Abstract

Articles of manufacture, such as paper towels, that contain polymer particles, for example water-soluble polymer particles, for example water-soluble soil adsorbing polymer particles and processes for making same are provided.

Claims

1. An article of manufacture comprising a plurality of water-soluble polymer particles and a hydrocarbon fluid, wherein the hydrocarbon fluid exhibits a VOC content of less than 60% as measured according to the VOC Test Method.

2. The article of manufacture according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the water-soluble polymer particles comprises a soil adsorbing polymer.

3. The article of manufacture according to claim 2 wherein the soil adsorbing polymer comprises a monomeric unit derived from an acrylamide compound.

4. The article of manufacture according to claim 2 wherein the soil adsorbing polymer comprises a monomeric unit derived from acrylic acid.

5. The article of manufacture according to claim 2 wherein the soil adsorbing polymer exhibits a net negative charge density as measured according to the Charge Density Test Method.

6. The article of manufacture according to claim 2 wherein the soil adsorbing polymer exhibits a UL Viscosity of from about 1 to about 6 cP as measured according to the Bulk Viscosity Test Method.

7. The article of manufacture according to claim 1 wherein at least a portion of the water-soluble polymer particles are present on a surface of the article of manufacture.

8. The article of manufacture according to claim 1 wherein the article of manufacture comprises greater than 0.005% by weight of the article of manufacture of the water-soluble polymer particles.

9. The article of manufacture according to claim 1 wherein the hydrocarbon fluid comprises an oil.

10. The article of manufacture according to claim 9 wherein the oil comprises white mineral oil.

11. The article of manufacture according to claim 1 wherein the hydrocarbon fluid comprises an ester.

12. The article of manufacture according to claim 11 wherein the ester comprises octyl stearate.

13. The article of manufacture according to claim 1 wherein the article of manufacture comprises greater than 0.005% by weight of the article of manufacture of the hydrocarbon fluid.

14. The article of manufacture according to claim 1 wherein the article of manufacture comprises less than 10% by weight of water.

15. The article of manufacture according to claim 1 wherein the article of manufacture comprises less than 350 ppm of residual acrylamide monomer as measured according to the Acrylamide Monomer Test Method.

16. The article of manufacture according to claim 1 wherein the article of manufacture exhibits an initial Average Soil Adsorption Value of greater than 90 mg/g article of manufacture as measured according to the Soil Adsorption Test Method.

17. The article of manufacture according to claim 16 wherein the article of manufacture exhibits an Average Soil Adsorption Value of greater than 90 mg/g article of manufacture as measured according to the Soil Adsorption Test Method after being subjected to the Stress Aging Procedure.

18. The article of manufacture according to claim 1 wherein the article of manufacture exhibits an initial Average Mirror Densitometer Value of greater than −

0.46 as measured according to the Mirror Cleaning Test Method.

19. The article of manufacture according to claim 18 wherein the article of manufacture exhibits an Average Mirror Densitometer Value of greater than −

0.46 as measured according to the Mirror Cleaning Test Method after being subjected to Stress Aging Procedure.

20. A process for making an article of manufacture according to claim 1 wherein the process comprises the step of contacting an article of manufacture with a dewatered emulsion comprising 1) a continuous phase comprising a hydrocarbon fluid that exhibits a VOC content of less than 60% as measured according to the VOC Test Method and 2) a dispersed phase comprising a plurality of water-soluble polymer particles such that the article of manufacture is formed.
