Abstract

A firefighting platform assembly that is attachable to the rear of existing fire vehicles outfitted with a self-contained firefighting apparatus or skid unit. The platform assembly comprises a platform base, upstanding side walls, and a means for attaching the platform assembly to a trailer hitch.

Claims

1. A platform assembly adaptable to a rear of a vehicle containing a trailer hitch comprising:

(a) a platform base comprising a platform base periphery;

(b) a plurality of upstanding side walls located at the platform base periphery; and

,

(c) a means for attaching the platform assembly to the trailer hitch fixedly attached near the platform base periphery.

2. The platform assembly of claim 1, wherein the plurality of upstanding side walls comprise an inboard side wall oriented towards the vehicle and an outboard side wall opposite said inboard side wall, wherein the inboard side wall comprises a gap so that a user can easily access a self-contained firefighting apparatus within the vehicle while standing on the platform base.

3. The assembly platform of claim 2, wherein the outboard side wall comprises an opening for ingress and egress of platform assembly.

4. The platform assembly of claim 2, wherein the means for attaching the platform assembly to the trailer hitch is a hitch member that is adapted to be received by a receiver-type trailer hitch.

5. The platform assembly of claim 4, wherein the inboard side wall further comprises one or more stabilizer arms that assist in supporting the platform assembly when adapted to the rear of a fire vehicle.

6. The platform assembly of claim 5, wherein the one or more stabilizer arms are vertically adjustable.

7. The platform assembly of claim 2, further comprising one or more hose mounts fixedly attached near the top portion of the inboard side wall to secure one or more hose nozzles.

8. The platform assembly of claim 7, wherein the one or more hose mounts are of a quick release type.

9. The platform assembly of claim 1, further comprising one or more stabilizer arms that secure onto a fire vehicle bumper or platform for additional support.

10. The platform assembly of claim 1, further comprising one or more hose mounts fixedly attached to the upstanding side walls to secure one or more fire hose nozzles.

11. The platform assembly of claim 1, wherein the upstanding side walls further comprise one or more adjustable angle mounts that enable fire hoses to be attached for unmanned usage, the one or more angle mounts are operatively connected to the upstanding side walls.

12. A platform assembly adaptable to a rear of a fire vehicle containing a hitch receiver, comprising:

(a) a platform base comprising a platform base periphery;

(b) a plurality of upstanding side walls located at the platform base periphery, the upstanding side walls comprise an inboard side wall oriented towards the vehicle and an outboard side wall opposite said inboard side wall, wherein the inboard side wall comprises a gap so that a user can easily access the rear of the fire vehicle containing a self-contained firefighting apparatus while standing on the platform base;

(c) a hitch member rigidly attached near inboard side of said platform base for connection to a hitch receiver mounted on the rear of a fire vehicle; and

,

(d) one or more stabilizer arms fixedly attached to the inboard side wall to assist in supporting the platform assembly when adapted to the rear of a fire vehicle.

13. The platform assembly of claim 12, wherein the one or more stabilizer arms are vertically adjustable to accommodate different size truck platforms and bumpers.

14. The assembly platform of claim 12, wherein the outboard side wall comprises an opening for ingress and egress of platform assembly.

15. The platform assembly of claim 12, further comprising one or more hose mounts fixedly attached to the upstanding walls to secure one or more fire hose nozzles.

16. The platform assembly of claim 15, wherein the one or more hose mounts are fixedly attached near the top portion of the inboard side wall to secure one or more fire hose nozzles.

17. The platform assembly of claim 16, wherein the one or more hose mounts are of a quick release type.

18. The platform assembly of claim 12, wherein the upstanding side walls further comprise one or more adjustable angle mounts that enable fire hoses to be attached for unmanned usage, the one or more angle mounts are operatively connected to the upstanding side walls.

19. A platform assembly adaptable to a rear of a fire vehicle containing a hitch receiver, comprising:

(a) a platform base comprising a platform base periphery;

(b) a plurality of upstanding side walls located at the platform base periphery, the upstanding side walls comprise an inboard side wall oriented towards the vehicle with a top portion and an outboard side wall opposite said inboard side wall, wherein the inboard side wall comprises a gap so that a user can easily access the rear of a fire vehicle containing a self-contained firefighting apparatus while standing on the platform base;

wherein the outboard side wall comprises an opening for ingress and egress of the platform assembly;

(c) a hitch member rigidly attached near inboard side of said platform base for connection to a hitch receiver mounted on the rear of the fire vehicle;

(d) one or more adjustable stabilizer arms fixedly attached to the inboard side wall to assist in supporting the assembly platform while connected to the rear of the fire vehicle; and

,

(e) a first and second fire hose mounts operatively connected to the top portion of the inboard side wall to secure one or more fire hose nozzles.
