1. A method of managing artificial lighting in an environment illuminated by at least one lighting fixture coupled to a database via a data network, the method comprising:

  • (A) storing a plurality of lighting parameters in the database, the plurality of lighting parameters including a desired illuminance level and/or a desired illuminance distribution in the environment as agreed upon by an operator of the environment and a manager of the at least one lighting fixture;

    (B) performing a measurement of an illuminance level and/or an illuminance distribution in the environment;

    (C) performing a comparison of the measurement of the illuminance level and/or the illuminance distribution in the environment made in (B) with the desired illuminance level and/or the desired illuminance distribution stored in (A); and

    (D) adjusting the at least one lighting fixture via the data network in response to the comparison made in (C).
