Abstract

An apparatus for notification of a circuit switched event in a mobile station. The apparatus comprising a circuit switched modem, a packetized data modem and a radio. The circuit switched modem, configured to communicate circuit switched data over a circuit switched network. The packetized data modem, configured to communicate packetized data over a packetized data network. The radio, configured to couple the packetized data modem to the packetized data network via a packetized data radio link, and configured to couple the circuit switched modem to the circuit switched network via a circuit switched radio link, wherein said radio comprise one transmitter and two receivers.

Claims

1. An mobile device for providing notification of a circuit switched event, the mobile device comprising:

a circuit switched modem, configured to communicate circuit switched data over a circuit switched network;

a packetized data modem, configured to communicate packetized data over a packetized data network; and

a radio, configured to couple the packetized data modem to the packetized data network via a packetized data radio link, and configured to couple the circuit switched modem to the circuit switched network via a circuit switched radio link,

wherein said radio comprise one transmitter and two receivers.

2. The mobile device as recited in claim 1, wherein at least one of said two receiver are connected to the circuit switched modem, and the transmitter is connected to both the circuit switched modem and packetized data modem.

3. The mobile device as recited in claim 1, wherein when said mobile device powers up, the mobile device searches for circuit switched network and conducts registration before searching for packetized data network.

4. The mobile device as recited in claim 1, wherein the mobile device sends an extended service request when receiving at least one of the following circuit switched events:

incoming circuit switched network;

page message;

mobile origination call;

location management signaling; and

re-registration.

5. The mobile device as recited in claim 1, wherein the packetized data network triggers connection of the packetized data radio link released.

The mobile device as recited in claim 1, further comprising the mobile device returns to packetized data network, wherein the mobile device sends a message to packetized data network, if the mobile device is in a list of the packetized data network which indicates the mobile device is suspended, the packetized data network sends a resume request and assigns packetized data radio link to the mobile device.

7. The mobile device as recited in claim 1, wherein when the mobile device is connected to the packetized data network, the mobile device informs the packetized data network that the mobile device suspends the packetized data radio link and handles at least one of the following circuit switched events:

a mobile origination call;

a mobile termination call;

a registration; and

a SMS.

8. An packetized data network connected with a mobile device for providing notification of a circuit switched event, the packetized data network comprising:

a base station, connected to the mobile device, configured to provide a packetized data radio link to the mobile station;

a mobile management entity, connected to said base station; and

a serving gateway, connected to said mobile management entity, and configured to provide packetized data,

wherein the mobile device is connected to a circuit switched network with one transmitter and two receivers.

The packetized data network as recited in claim 8, wherein at least one of said two receivers are assigned to a circuit switch radio link, when said mobile device powers up, the mobile device searches for the circuit switched network and conducts registration before searching for packetized data network.

10. The packetized data network as recited in claim 8, wherein the packetized data network receives an extended service request from the mobile device and triggers the packetized data radio link connection to release.

11. The packetized data network as recited in claim 8, wherein the mobile management entity sends a circuit switch fallback indicator to indicate the base station to move the mobile device to the circuit switched network.

12. The packetized data network as recited in claim 8, wherein the base station triggers packetized data radio link to release, and sends an context release request to mobile management entity.

13. The packetized data network as recited in claim 12, wherein mobile management entity sets a mobile device context according to the context release request, and sends the serving gateway suspend request.

14. The apparatus as recited in claim 13, wherein the serving gateway acknowledges the suspend request and release a bearer corresponding with the mobile device, and marks the mobile device as suspended.

15. An method for a mobile device which is configured for providing notification of a circuit switched event, the method comprising:

communicating circuit switched data over a circuit switched network;

communicating packetized data over a packetized data network; and

through a radio, coupling to the packetized data network via a packetized data radio link, and the circuit switched network via a circuit switched radio link, wherein said radio comprise one transmitter and two receivers.

16. The method as recited in claim 15, wherein at least one of said two receiver are connected to the circuit switched network, and the transmitter is connected to both the circuit switched network and packetized data network.

17. The method as recited in claim 15, wherein when said mobile device powers up, the method further comprising searching for circuit switched network and conducts registration before searching for packetized data network.

18. The method as recited in claim 15, further comprising sending an extended service request when receiving at least one of the following circuit switched events:

incoming circuit switched network;

page message;

mobile origination call;

location management signaling; and

re-registration.

19. The method as recited in claim 15, further comprising the mobile device returns to packetized data network, wherein the mobile device sends a message to packetized data network, if the mobile device is in a list of the packetized data network which indicates the mobile device is suspended, the packetized data network sends a resume request and assigns packetized data radio link to the mobile device.

20. The method as recited in claim 15, wherein when the mobile device is connected to the packetized data network, further comprising informing the packetized data network that the mobile device suspends the packetized data radio link and handles at least one of the following circuit switched events:

a mobile origination call;

a mobile termination call;

a registration; and

a SMS.

21. A method for a packetized data network connected with a mobile device for providing notification of a circuit switched event, the method comprising:

connecting a base station to the mobile device, providing a packetized data radio link to the mobile station;

connecting a mobile management entity to said base station; and

connecting a serving gateway to said mobile management entity, and providing packetized data,

wherein the mobile device is connected to a circuit switched network with one transmitter and two receivers.

22. The method as recited in claim 21, wherein at least one of said two receivers are assigned to a circuit switch radio link, when said mobile device powers up, the mobile device searches for the circuit switched network and conducts registration before searching for packetized data network.

23. The method as recited in claim 21, further comprising receiving an extended service request from the mobile device and triggering the packetized data radio link connection to release.

24. The method as recited in claim 21, further comprising sending a circuit switch fallback indicator to indicate the base station to move the mobile device to the circuit switched network.

25. The method as recited in claim 21, further comprising triggering packetized data radio link to release, and sending an context release request to mobile management entity.

26. The method as recited in claim 25, wherein mobile management entity sets a mobile device context according to the context release request, and sends the serving gateway suspend request.

27. The method as recited in claim 26, wherein the serving gateway acknowledges the suspend request and release a bearer corresponding with the mobile device, and marks the mobile device as suspended.
