Abstract

In one embodiment, a mobile device and another computer operate in tandem through a cloud synchronization service to analyze image data and provide a location based service to a user. A mobile application receives image data and stores the image data in a cloud service format. The cloud synchronization service sends the image data to a desktop application on the other computer. The desktop application analyzes the image data to generate an image attribute. The cloud synchronization service sends the image attribute data to the mobile application. The mobile application provides at least one location based service based on the image attribute. The mobile application may be an augmented reality application.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving image data captured by a mobile application;

sending the image data in a cloud service format to a cloud service server;

receiving an image attribute for the image data and at least one coordinate from the image data from the cloud service server; and

providing, using the mobile application, at least one location based service based on the image attribute for the image data and the at least one coordinate.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the image attribute and the at least one coordinate are determined by a desktop application.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

generating a key at the mobile device; and

sending the key to the desktop application, wherein the desktop application is configured to access the image data with the key and generate the image attribute and the at least one coordinate.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the desktop application is executed at a location geographically distinct from the mobile application and the cloud service server.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the image attribute for the image data is a name of an object depicted in the image data.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the location based service provides a link to information associated with the object depicted in the image data.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the location based service provides navigation to the object depicted in the image data.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one coordinate includes at least one pixel location in the image data.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the cloud service format includes an encryption that is inaccessible to the cloud service server.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the cloud service format includes an identification value for the mobile device.

11. An apparatus comprising:

a communication interface configured to receive image data from a cloud service, wherein the image data is captured by a mobile application; and

a controller configured to generate at least one image attribute from an analysis of the image data and store the at least one image attribute at a file location registered with the cloud service for the mobile application.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the image data is automatically sent to the file location by the cloud service.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the image attribute is configured to provide a location based service by the mobile application.

14. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the analysis of the image data includes at least one of feature detection, edge detection, character recognition, and template matching.

15. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the controller is configured to calculate at least one boundary location for an identified symbol in the image data.

16. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the controller is configured to access the image data from the cloud service with a key received from the mobile application.

17. A method comprising:

monitoring a file location in a desktop computer;

identifying image data added to the file location from a cloud service;

analyzing the image data for a predetermined object;

generating an image attribute indicative of the predetermined object; and

storing the image attribute in the file location.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the image attribute is stored as metadata in a file including the image data.

19. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

generating at least one boundary coordinate for the predetermined object in the image data; and

storing data indicative of the at least one boundary coordinate at the file location.

20. An apparatus comprising:

a camera configured to capture image data;

a controller configured to execute a mobile application for operation of the camera; and

a communication interface configured to send the image data to a cloud service server and receive an image attribute for the image data from the cloud service server, wherein the image attribute is generated by a desktop application associated with the mobile application.

21. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the controller is configured to provide at least one location based service using the image attribute for the image data.

22. The apparatus of claim 20, further comprising:

a memory configured to store the image data in a cloud service format, wherein the cloud service format identifies the mobile application or the apparatus.

23. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the cloud service server is geographically spaced from the desktop application and the mobile application.
