Abstract

Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for providing a native desktop using cloud-synchronized data are presented. In some embodiments, a desktop management service provided by at least one computing device may selectively store data from a remote desktop. Subsequently, the desktop management service may synchronize the stored data with a cloud-based data storage platform. Thereafter, the desktop management service may cause a native desktop to be presented on a client device using the synchronized data. In some arrangements, the extracted, analyzed, and/or selectively stored data may include one or more application shortcuts, one or more documents, one or more registry keys, one or more personalization settings, or one or more layout settings. Additionally or alternatively, the remote desktop may be associated with a first operating system, and the native desktop may be associated with a second operating system different from the first operating system.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

selectively storing, by a desktop management service provided by at least one computing device, data from a remote desktop;

synchronizing, by the desktop management service, the stored data with a cloud-based data storage platform; and

causing, by the desktop management service, a native desktop to be presented on a client device using the synchronized data,

wherein the remote desktop is associated with a first operating system and the native desktop is associated with a second operating system different from the first operating system.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the stored data includes one or more application shortcuts, one or more documents, one or more registry keys, one or more personalization settings, or one or more layout settings.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein one or more policies are configured to control behavior of the native desktop.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein causing the native desktop to be presented on the client device includes:

causing at least some of the synchronized data to be presented using at least one native application of the native desktop.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein causing the native desktop to be presented on the client device includes:

causing a remoted application to be presented on the client device if a native viewing application for at least some of the synchronized data is unavailable.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

after causing the native desktop to be presented on the client device, causing, by the desktop management service, a background connection to be established between the client device and a second device that is configured to provide the remote desktop.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

after causing the native desktop to be presented on the client device, synchronizing, by the desktop management service, changes made on the client device to at least some of the synchronized data with the cloud-based data storage platform.

8. A system, comprising:

at least one processor; and

memory storing computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to;

provide a desktop management service;

selectively store, via the desktop management service, data from a remote desktop;

synchronize, via the desktop management service, the stored data with a cloud-based data storage platform; and

cause, via the desktop management service, a native desktop to be presented on a client device using the synchronized data,

wherein the remote desktop is associated with a first operating system and the native desktop is associated with a second operating system different from the first operating system.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the stored data includes one or more application shortcuts, one or more documents, one or more registry keys, one or more personalization settings, or one or more layout settings.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein one or more policies are configured to control behavior of the native desktop.

11. The system of claim 8, wherein causing the native desktop to be presented on the client device includes:

causing at least some of the synchronized data to be presented using at least one native application of the native desktop.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein causing the native desktop to be presented on the client device includes:

causing a remoted application to be presented on the client device if a native viewing application for at least some of the synchronized data is unavailable.

13. The system of claim 8, wherein the memory stores additional computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the system to:

after causing the native desktop to be presented on the client device, cause, via the desktop management service, a background connection to be established between the client device and a second device that is configured to provide the remote desktop.

14. The system of claim 8, wherein the memory stores additional computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the system to:

after causing the native desktop to be presented on the client device, synchronize, via the desktop management service, changes made on the client device to at least some of the synchronized data with the cloud-based data storage platform.

15. A method, comprising:

determining, by a computing device, whether a connection to a cloud-based storage platform is available;

responsive to determining that the connection to the cloud-based storage platform is available, synchronizing, by the computing device, local cache data with the cloud-based storage platform, the local cache data including one or more files maintained on a remote desktop; and

presenting, by the computing device, a native desktop based on the local cache data.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein synchronizing the local cache data with the cloud-based storage platform includes updating the local cache data based on one or more changes made to at least one file on the remote desktop.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein synchronizing the local cache data includes updating information stored in the cloud-based storage platform based on changes made to at least one file on the computing device.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein presenting the native desktop includes:

receiving a request to access a cached file; and

opening the cached file in a native editor.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein presenting the native desktop includes presenting an arrangement of one or more elements representing the remote desktop.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein the native desktop is presented when a connection from the computing device to the cloud-based storage platform is not available.
