Abstract
A method for reducing regurgitation in a mitral valve using a blood flow controlling apparatus. The blood flow controlling apparatus comprises a leaflet coaptation member, a connecting member, and an anchor suitable for anchoring the apparatus to the interventricular septum. The leaflet coaptation member coapts with the native mitral valve leaflets during systole when disposed therebetween, thereby reducing mitral valve regurgitation. During diastole, the native leaflets release coaptation with the leaflet coaptation member, permitting blood flow from the left atrium into the left ventricle.

11. A device for treating a mitral valve exhibiting regurgitation, the device comprising:

an inflow end and an outflow end; a support structure comprising a longitudinal axis, an atrial portion, and a ventricular portion; a valve member supported by the support structure, the valve member having an open state and a closed state, the open state permitting fluid flow from the inflow end to the outflow end, and the closed state blocking fluid flow from the inflow end to the outflow end, the valve member converting between the open state and the closed state in response to changes in a pressure gradient between the inflow end and the outflow end; a plurality of anchors extending radially outwardly from the ventricular portion of the support structure, the plurality of anchors suitable for engaging chordae tendineae of a native mitral valve of a heart to anchor the device with the atrial portion of the support structure in a left atrium of the heart and the ventricular portion in a left ventricle of the heart, wherein the device is radially compressible for transcatheter delivery. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26)
