Abstract

A system includes a processor configured to display a Geographic Information System (GIS) map, derive a data based on a user action associated with the map; associate a thumbnail image to the data; and display the thumbnail image representative of the map.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a processor configured to;

display a Geographic Information System (GIS) map;

derive a data based on a user action associated with the map;

associate a thumbnail image to the data; and

display the thumbnail image representative of the map.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the data comprises a map coordinate, a map object, a map object relationship, or a combination thereof.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the user action comprises zooming the map, panning the map, rotating the map, or a combination thereof.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the user action comprises a GIS search action.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to navigate to a section of the map based on a selection of the thumbnail image.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to display an informational pop-up when a pointer hovers over the thumbnail image.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to display a magnifier to magnify the thumbnail.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to use a filter to modify the user actions that derive a thumbnail image.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the processors is configured to share the thumbnail and the data with a remote user.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to pan, zoom, rotate, filter, or a combination thereof, a map view displayed in the thumbnail image.

11. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions executable by processor and configured to:

display a Geographic Information System (GIS) map;

derive a data based on a user action associated with the map;

associate a thumbnail image to the data; and

display the thumbnail image representative of the map.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the data comprises a GIS information used in creating the thumbnail image, used in navigating to a position on the map, or a combination thereof.

13. The system of claim 11, comprising code configured to display an informational pop-up display comprising an information about the thumbnail, the map, or a combination thereof, when a user hovers over the thumbnail.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the informational pop-up display comprises a share feature and/or a hide feature.

15. The system of claim 11, comprising code configured to provide a filter, wherein the filter is used to reduce the number of user actions that cause the system to derive the thumbnail.

16. The system of claim 11, comprising code configured to provide a column and row display used to display the thumbnail image and a second thumbnail image.

17. A method, comprising:

displaying a Geographic Information System (GIS) map;

deriving a data based on a user action associated with the map;

associating a thumbnail image to the data; and

displaying the thumbnail image representative of the map.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the user action comprises zooming the map, panning the map, rotating the map, executing a GIS search, executing a navigation panel action, or a combination thereof.

19. The method of claim 17, comprising displaying an informational pop-up comprising information about the thumbnail and thumbnail management options.

20. The method of claim 17, comprising employing a filter to manage the thumbnail image of the map view.
