Abstract

A portable terminal including a touch screen configured to receive a touch input and display an image. The method includes a motion sensing unit configured to sense a motion of the portable terminal; and a controller operatively connected to the motion sensing unit and the touch screen, and configured to: enlarge or reduce a portion of the image on the touch screen, based on the motion sensed by the motion sensing unit while the touch input on the touch screen is maintained.

Claims

1. A portable terminal, comprising:

a touch screen configured to receive a touch input and display an image;

a motion sensing unit configured to sense a motion of the portable terminal; and

a controller operatively connected to the motion sensing unit and the touch screen, and configured to;

enlarge or reduce a portion of the image on the touch screen, based on the motion sensed by the motion sensing unit while the touch input on the touch screen is maintained.

2. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein the touch screen includes a display module and a touch pad, and the touch pad and the display module are formed in a layered manner.

3. The portable terminal of claim 2, wherein the display module is overlaid on the touch pad.

4. The portable terminal of claim 2, wherein the touch pad is overlaid on the display module.

5. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein the touch input is a direct touch made in contact with the touch screen, or a proximity touch.

6. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein the motion sensing unit senses a degree of a rotation motion of the portable terminal, and

an amount of the enlargement or reduction of the portion of the image on the touch screen is changed based on the degree of the rotation motion sensed by the motion sensing unit.

7. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein the motion sensing unit senses a degree of an in-and-out motion of the portable terminal, and

an amount of the enlargement or reduction of the portion of the image on the touch screen is changed based on the degree of the in-and-out motion sensed by the motion sensing unit.

8. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein the controller changes an amount of the enlargement or reduction of the portion of the image on the touch screen, when a time of the motion of the portable terminal overlaps with a time of the touch input on the touch screen.

9. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein the motion sensing unit includes a two-axis or three-axis acceleration sensor.

10. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein when the touch input on the touch screen is initially detected, the motion sensing unit starts to sense the motion of the portable terminal for the enlargement or reduction of the portion of the image, and

when the touch input on the touch screen is released, the motion sensing unit terminates the sensing of the motion of the portable terminal for the enlargement or reduction of the portion of the image.

11. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein during the touch input on the touch screen is maintained, the motion sensing unit continues to detect the motion of the portable terminal for the enlargement or reduction of the portion of the image, and

when the touch input on the touch screen is released, the motion sensing unit terminates the sensing of the motion of the portable terminal thr the enlargement or reduction of the portion of the image.

12. The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein the portion of the image being enlarged or reduced is an area on the touch screen that receives the touch input.

13. The portable terminal of claim 12, wherein the controller enlarges the area on the touch screen, according to an enlargement ratio being varied based on the motion sensed by the motion sensing unit while the touch input on the area is maintained.

The portable terminal of claim 1, wherein the controller controls the portable terminal to notify a user while the enlargement or reduction of the portion of the image on the touch screen is in progress, or controls the portable terminal to notify the user when the enlargement or reduction of the portion of the image on the touch screen is completed.

15. A portable terminal, comprising:

a touch screen configured to receive a touch input and display an image;

a motion sensing unit configured to sense a motion of the portable terminal; and

a controller operatively connected to the motion sensing unit and the touch screen, and configured to;

zoom-in or zoom-out the image on the touch screen, in response to the motion of the portable terminal sensed by the motion sensing unit while the touch input on the touch screen is maintained.

16. The portable terminal of claim 15, wherein the controller zooms-in or zooms-out a portion of the image onto Which the touch input is made.

17. The portable terminal of claim 16, wherein the controller changes a zoom-in or zoom-out ratio of the touched portion of the image based on the sensed motion of the portable terminal while the touch input on the portion of the image is maintained.

18. A portable terminal, comprising:

a touch screen configured to receive a touch input and display an image;

a motion sensing unit configured to sense a motion of the portable terminal; and

a controller operatively connected to the motion sensing unit and the touch screen and configured to;

change an area of the image being displayed on the touch screen, based on the motion of the portable terminal sensed by the motion sensing unit while the touch input on the touch screen is maintained.

19. The portable terminal of claim 18, wherein when the sensed motion includes an upward or downward tilting motion of the portable terminal, the controller controls the touch screen to display an upwardly or downwardly scrolled area of the image in response to the upward or downward tilting motion of the portable terminal while the image is displayed.

The portable terminal of claim 18, wherein when the sensed motion includes a left or right tilting motion of the portable terminal, the controller controls the touch screen to display a left or right scrolled area of the image in response to the left or right tilting motion of the portable terminal while the image is displayed.

The portable terminal of claim 18, wherein when changing the area of the image displayed on the touch screen, the controller controls the portable terminal to notify a user, when the changing of the area of the image on the touch screen is completed or when the changing of the area of the image on the touch screen is in progress.
