Abstract

A monitoring device comprises a single housing, a plurality of sensors supported by the housing to detect respective characteristics of a location, a processing device within the housing, and memory within the housing to store data collected by the plurality of sensors. The sensors may include a camera, a temperature sensor, an air quality sensor, an infrared sensor, an ambient light sensor, a humidity sensor, an accelerometer, a carbon monoxide sensor, and/or a carbon dioxide sensor, for example. Processing may be provided on the device to evaluate the sensor responses, such as by comparison to respective thresholds. In additions, sensor data may be sent to a network for further processing. The device does not require physical or wired installation, and is easy to set up. Multiple, separate sensors are not required in order to monitor a space and a separate processing device is also not required.

Claims

1. A monitoring device comprising:

a single housing;

a camera supported by the housing to collect images of a location;

a temperature sensor supported by the housing, to detect a temperature of the location; and

an air quality sensor supported by the housing, to sense a quality of the air in the location.

2. The monitoring device of claim 1, further comprising:

a processing device; and

wherein the processing device is configured to determine whether temperature data collected from the temperature sensor exceeds a temperature threshold; and

if the temperature data exceeds the threshold, provide an indication that the threshold is exceeded.

3. The monitoring device of claim 1, further comprising:

a processing device; and

wherein the processing device is configured to determine whether data collected from the camera exceeds a movement threshold; and

if the camera data exceeds the threshold, provide an indication that the threshold is exceeded.

4. The monitoring device of claim 2, further comprising:

a transmitter to transmit collected data to a network for further processing.

5. The monitoring device of claim 2, wherein the processing device is configured to transmit data from the camera, temperature sensor, and the quality sensor, at substantially the same time.

6. The monitoring device of claim 2, further comprising:

a processing device; and

wherein the processing device is configured to determine whether the air quality detected by the air quality sensor exceeds an air quality threshold, and

if the air quality data exceeds the air quality threshold, provide an indication that the second threshold is exceeded.

7. The monitoring device of claim 1, further comprising a thermally isolated chamber supported within the housing, wherein the temperature sensor is supported within the thermally isolated chamber.

8. The monitoring device of claim 7, further comprising an air quality sensor, wherein the air quality sensor is stored within the thermally isolated chamber.

9. The monitoring device of claim 2, wherein the camera comprises an image sensor.

10. The monitoring device of claim 9, wherein the processing device is configured to analyze video collected by the image sensor to determine if motion is shown in the video.

11. The monitoring device of claim 10, wherein the processing device is configured to send video in which motion is at least potentially identified, to a network for further processing.

12. The monitoring device of claim 1, further comprising an audio port supported by the housing to receive an audio cable.

13. The monitoring device of claim 1, further comprising supported by the housing:

an infrared sensor;

at least one actuating device; and

a filter selectively movable in front of the infrared sensor by the at least one actuating device.

14. The monitoring device of claim 13, further comprising:

a second filter supported by the housing, the second filter being selectively movable in front of the infrared sensor by the at least one actuating device.

15. The monitoring device of claim 1, further comprising at least one sensor chosen from the group consisting of:

an air quality sensor, an ambient light sensor, a humidity sensor, an infrared sensor, an accelerometer, a carbon monoxide sensor, and a carbon dioxide sensor,

wherein the at least one sensor is supported by the same housing.

16. The monitoring device of claim 1, further comprising an audible, visible and/or tactile signaling device supported by the housing.

17. The monitoring device of claim 16, wherein the signaling device comprises a siren.

18. The monitoring device of claim 1, wherein the temperature sensor includes a humidity sensor.

19. A monitoring device comprising:

a single housing;

a plurality of sensors supported by the housing to detect respective characteristics of a location;

a processing device within the housing; and

memory within the housing to store data collected by the plurality of sensors.

20. The device of claim 19, wherein the processing device is configured to store a snapshot of data collected by the respective sensors at a point in time or in a time interval.

21. The device of claim 19, configured to monitor the location without additional sensors not supported by the housing.

22. The device of claim 19, configured to monitor the location without a second processing device at the location, outside of the housing.

23. The device of claim 19, configured to continuously collect data about the locations by the sensors at least over a time period.

24. The device of claim 23, further configured to continuously provide the periodically collected data to a network for analysis.

25. The device of claim 19, configured to periodically collect data about the location by the sensors.

26. The monitoring device of claim 19, configured to operate in the location without installation.

27. The monitoring device claim 26, configured to operate in the location without wired installation to the location.

28. The monitoring device of claim 19, wherein the processing device is configured to transmit multiple data streams to a network, each data stream comprising data collected by a respective sensor.

29. The monitoring device of claim 19, wherein:

the processing device is configured to determine whether sensor data collected from any of the plurality of sensors exceeds respective thresholds for a respective sensor; and

if the data collected from any of the sensors exceeds the threshold, provide an indication that a respective threshold is exceeded.

30. The monitoring device of claim 29, wherein the processing device is configured to:

receive the at least one threshold from a system via a network; and

inform the system if a threshold is exceeded, via the network.

The monitoring device of claim 19, wherein the threshold is derived by the system based, at least in part, on previous data provided by the monitoring device to the system, data provided by a plurality of devices in a plurality of locations, third party sources of information, and/or user input to the system.

32. The device of claim 19, further comprising a camera supported by the same housing to collect images of the environment.

33. The device of claim 19, wherein the plurality of sensors are chosen from the group consisting of:

an image sensor, a temperature sensor, an air quality sensor, an ambient light sensor, a humidity sensor, an infrared sensor, an accelerometer, a carbon monoxide sensor, and a carbon dioxide sensor.
