Abstract

An image processing apparatus includes a chipset unit which processes data; a connector which includes a plurality of terminals, and is configured to connect with a cable so that the chipset unit can transmit and receive a signal to and from an external device; a switching unit which supplies power to the external device through a first terminal of the connector, and selectively controls a switching operation regarding whether or not to supply power to the first terminal on the basis of a signal state of a second terminal of the connector when the cable is connected to the connector. A control method of the image processing apparatus is also disclosed.

Claims

1. A television apparatus comprising:

a chipset unit configured to process data;

a connector comprising a plurality of terminals and configured for connection with a cable in order for the chipset unit to transmit and receive a signal to and from an external device;

a power supply configured to supply power to the chipset unit and to a switching unit; and

the switching unit configured to selectively supply power to the external device through a first terminal of the plurality of terminals of the connector based on a signal state of a second terminal of the plurality of terminals of the connector, the power being supplied from the switching unit to the external device via the cable connected to the connector even when the television apparatus is in a standby mode.

2. The television apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the signal state of the second terminal is configured to be varied depending on whether or not a third terminal of the plurality of terminals of the connector is connected to the second terminal, and

wherein the switching unit is further configured to allow the power to be supplied to the first terminal, as the cable complying with a first standard preset to connect the second terminal and the third terminal, is connected.

3. The television apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the switching unit comprises:

a detection circuit configured to detect a connection between the second terminal and the third terminal; and

a first switching circuit configured to be turned on so as to supply power from the power supply to the first terminal in response to the detection circuit detecting that the second terminal and the third terminal are connected with each other.

4. The television apparatus according to claim 3, wherein:

the detection circuit comprises a pull-up circuit connected to the third terminal, and

the first switching circuit is connected to the second terminal and configured to be turned on by the pull-up circuit, so that power can be transmitted to the first terminal when the second terminal and the third terminal are connected with each other.

5. The television apparatus according to claim 4, wherein

the pull-up circuit comprises a resistor connected to the power supply and the third terminal.

6. The television apparatus according to claim 4, wherein:

the detection circuit comprises a pull-down circuit connected to the second terminal and the first switching circuit, and

the first switching circuit is configured to be turned off by the pull-down circuit so that the power from the power supply cannot be transmitted to the first terminal when the second terminal and the third terminal are disconnected from each other.

7. The television apparatus according to claim 6, wherein the pull-down circuit comprises a resistor connected to ground.

8. The television apparatus according to claim 6, wherein the switching unit comprises a second switching circuit configured to switch in order to connect or disconnect the chipset unit to the first terminal and the first switching circuit.

9. The television apparatus according to claim 8, wherein the second switching circuit is configured to be turned on or turned off by the pull-up circuit and the pull-down circuit, in reverse operation to the first switching circuit.

The television apparatus according to claim 8, wherein the second switching circuit is further configured to prevent the power supplied to the first terminal from being supplied to the chipset unit when the first switching circuit is turned on, and allows the first terminal and the chipset unit to be connected when the first switching circuit is turned off.

11. The television apparatus according to claim 8, wherein

the switching unit comprises a controller configured to turn on the first switching circuit and turn off the second switching circuit in response to a connection to the pull-up circuit, and configured to turn off the first switching circuit and turn on the second switching circuit in response to disconnection from the pull-up circuit.

The television apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the switching unit is further configured to shut off the power from the television apparatus to the first terminal in response to the cable connected to the connector complying with a second standard preset not to connect the second terminal and the third terminal, or in response to the cable not being connected to the connector.

13. The television apparatus according to claim 12, wherein the cable corresponding to the first standard complies with mobile high-definition link (MHL) standards, and the cable corresponding to the second standard complies with high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) standards.

14. A control method of an television apparatus comprising a chipset unit configured to process data, a connector comprising a plurality of terminals and configured to connect with a cable so that the chipset unit can transmit and receive a signal to and from an external device, and a power supply configured to supply power, the method comprising:

determining that the cable is connected to the connector while the chipset unit is in a standby mode;

selectively switching the supply of power from the power supply to a first terminal of the plurality of terminals of the connector based on a signal state of a second terminal of the plurality of terminals of the connector, in response to the determining that the cable is connected to the connector; and

transmitting the power from the power supply to the external device through the first terminal in response to the second terminal being a preset signal state.

15. The method according to claim 14, wherein the signal state of the second terminal is varied depending on whether or not a third terminal of the plurality of terminals of the connector is connected to the second terminal, and

the switching comprises allowing the power of the television apparatus to be supplied to the first terminal as the cable complying with a first preset standard in order to connect the second terminal, and the third terminal are connected.

16. The method according to claim 15, wherein the switching comprises:

detecting whether the second terminal and the third terminal are connected with each other;

allowing the power to be supplied to the first terminal in response to a detection that the second terminal and the third terminal are connected with each other; and

shutting off the power to the first terminal in response to a detection that the second terminal and the third terminal are disconnected with each other.

17. The method according to claim 16, wherein the allowing the power to be supplied to the first terminal comprises preventing the power supplied to the first terminal from being supplied to the chipset unit.

18. The method according to claim 16, where the shutting off of power to the first terminal comprises allowing the first terminal and the chipset unit to be connected with each other.

19. The method according to claim 15, wherein the switching includes shutting off the power to the first terminal in response to the cable connected to the connector complying with a second preset standard not to connect the second terminal and the third terminal, or in response to the cable not being connected to the connector.

20. The method according to claim 19, wherein the cable corresponding to the first standard complies with mobile high-definition link (MHL) standards, and the cable corresponding to the second standard complies with high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) standards.

21. A television apparatus comprising:

a connector comprising a plurality of terminals and configured for connection with a cable to receive signals from an external device;

a power supply configured to supply power to a switching unit; and

the switching unit configured to selectively supply power to the external device through a first terminal of the plurality of terminals of the connector based on a signal state of a second terminal of the plurality of terminals of the connector,

the power being supplied from the switching unit to the external device via the cable connected to the connector even when the television apparatus is in a standby mode.

22. The television apparatus according to claim 21, wherein the signal state of the second terminal is maintained in a high state in response to a third terminal of the connector being connected to the second terminal, and

the switching unit supplies charging power to the external device through the first terminal of the connector when the second terminal of the connector is in the high state.

23. The television apparatus according to claim 22, further comprising:

a display panel; and

a chipset unit configured to process image data from the external device connected via the cable and to display the image data on the display panel.
