Abstract

A servicing communication device may receive a subset of a location reference database that is maintained by a plurality of location servers, and may provide location related data to a mobile device that is communicatively coupled to the servicing communication device based on the received subset. The servicing communication device may determine capabilities and/or requirements of the mobile device, and may generate the location related data based on that determination. The servicing communication device may determine attributes and/or parameters that may affect determination of the subset of the location reference database. The subset of location reference database may be requested based on the determined attributes and/or parameters. The attributes and/or parameters may comprise a location of the servicing communication device. The servicing communication device may determine its location, directly based on GNSS transmissions and/or indirectly based on assisted GNSS (A-GNSS) data received from the plurality of location servers.

Claims

1. A wireless access point, comprising:

a memory configured to store a subset of location data, wherein the subset of location data is a subset of data stored in a location reference database; and

a processor configured to;

request an update of the stored subset of location data from the location reference database,

receive a location requirement corresponding to a mobile device serviced by the wireless access point,

generate customized location data corresponding to the mobile device based on the stored subset of location data and the location requirement, and

send the customized location data to the mobile device.

2. The wireless access point of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine a location of the wireless access point.

3. The wireless access point of claim 2, wherein the processor is further configured to:

request the update of the stored subset of location data based on the location of the wireless access point.

4. The wireless access point of claim 2, wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine the location of the wireless access point based on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data received from the location reference database.

5. The wireless access point of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to:

request the location requirement from the mobile device.

6. The wireless access point of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to:

request additional location data from the location reference database if the stored subset of location data is insufficient to satisfy the location requirement; and

update the stored subset of location data using the additional location data if the additional location data is requested.

7. The wireless access point of claim 1, wherein the wireless access point comprises a cellular base station, a WiMAX base station, a wireless local area network (WLAN) access point, a femtocell, or a personal communication device.

8. A wireless access point, comprising:

a memory configured to store a subset of location data, wherein the subset of location data is a subset of data stored in a location reference database; and

a processor configured to;

receive a location requirement corresponding to a mobile device serviced by the wireless access point,

request additional location data from the location reference database if the stored subset of location data is insufficient to satisfy the location requirement,

update the stored subset of location data using the additional location data if the additional location data is requested,

generate customized location data corresponding to the mobile device based on the stored subset of location data and the location requirement, and

send the customized location data to the mobile device.

9. The wireless access point of claim 8, wherein the wireless access point comprises a cellular base station, a WiMAX base station, a wireless local area network (WLAN) access point, a femtocell, or a personal communication device.

10. The wireless access point of claim 8, wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine a location of the wireless access point.

11. The wireless access point of claim 10, wherein the processor is further configured to:

periodically request an update of the stored subset of location data based on the location of the wireless access point.

12. The wireless access point of claim 10, wherein the processor is configured to:

determine the location of the wireless access point based on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data received from the location reference database.

13. The wireless access point of claim 8, wherein the processor is further configured to:

request the location requirement from the mobile device.

14. A wireless access point, comprising:

a memory; and

a processor configured to;

request, based on a location of the wireless access point, a subset of location data stored in a location reference database,

receive the subset of location data from the location reference database,

receive a location requirement corresponding to a mobile device serviced by the wireless access point after receiving the subset of location data,

generate customized location data corresponding to the mobile device based on the subset of location data and the location requirement, and

send the customized location data to the mobile device.

15. The wireless access point of claim 14, wherein the processor is configured to receive the subset of location data before communication is established between the wireless access point and the mobile device.

16. The wireless access point of claim 14, wherein the processor is configured to request the subset of location data based on a location of the wireless access point, processing resources of the wireless access point, storage resources of the wireless access point, and/or a load of the wireless access point.

17. The wireless access point of claim 14, wherein the wireless access point comprises a cellular base station, a WiMAX base station, a wireless local area network (WLAN) access point, a femtocell, or a personal communication device.

18. The wireless access point of claim 14, wherein the memory is configured to store the subset of location data.

19. The wireless access point of claim 18, wherein the processor is further configured to:

periodically request an update of the stored subset of location data.

20. The wireless access point of claim 19, wherein the processor is further configured to:

request additional location data from the location reference database if the stored subset of location data is insufficient to satisfy the location requirement; and

update the stored subset of location data using the additional location data if the additional location data is requested.
