Abstract

Systems, methods, and devices for transmitting data are described herein. In some aspects, a method comprises generating a first packet. The first packet may comprise a physical layer and a media access control (MAC) layer. The MAC layer may allocate a first station to a primary frequency channel and a second station to a secondary frequency channel. The method further comprises transmitting the first packet to the first station and the second station. The method further comprises transmitting a second packet to the first station using the primary frequency channel. The method further comprises transmitting a third packet to the second station using the secondary frequency channel.

Claims

1. A method for high-efficiency wireless frequency division multiplexing, comprising:

determining a performance characteristic for each wireless device in a first basic service set (BSS);

categorizing each wireless device in the first BSS into a first subset of wireless devices or a second subset of wireless devices based on the performance characteristic;

transmitting first packets to the first subset of wireless devices using a primary frequency channel;

transmitting second packets to the second subset of wireless devices using a secondary frequency channel; and

transmitting a coordination packet to an access point in a second BSS indicating that the secondary frequency channel is used to communicate with the second subset of wireless devices, the access point in the second BSS transmitting third packets to a first set of wireless devices in the second BSS using the primary frequency channel and transmitting fourth packets to a second set of wireless devices in the second BSS using a ternary frequency channel in response to receiving the coordination packet.

2. The method of claim 1, categorizing each wireless device in the first BSS comprising categorizing each wireless device in the first BSS into the second subset of wireless devices if the performance characteristic of the respective wireless device indicates that the respective wireless device experiences interference greater than a threshold value.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving a request from a first wireless device in the first BSS to be categorized in the second subset of wireless devices.

4. The method of claim 1, a first wireless device in the first BSS comprising a high-efficiency wireless component and a second wireless device in the first BSS not comprising a high-efficiency wireless component.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising categorizing the second wireless device in the first subset of wireless devices or the second subset of wireless devices based on a bandwidth capability of the second wireless device.

6. The method of claim 1, the performance characteristic comprising at least one of a signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), an RF geometry, a received signal strength indicator (RSSI), a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) value, an interference level, a signal level, a transmission capability, or a combination thereof.

7. The method of claim 6, the first subset of wireless devices having a lower interference than the second subset of wireless devices.

8. The method of claim 1, the primary channel frequency and the secondary frequency channel being contiguous in an operating bandwidth.

9. The method of claim 1, the primary channel frequency and the secondary frequency channel not being contiguous in an operating bandwidth.

10. The method of claim 1, the second frequency channel being a subset of the primary frequency channel.

11. The method of claim 1, transmitting second packets comprising transmitting the second packets at a same time that the access point transmits fourth packets to the second set of wireless devices in the second BSS using the ternary frequency channel.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising scheduling a time for transmissions of the second packets and the fourth packets.

13. The method of claim 1, transmitting first packets comprising transmitting the first packets at a same time that the access point transmits third packets to the first set of wireless devices in the second BSS using the primary frequency channel.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising scheduling a time for transmissions of the first packets and the third packets.

15. The method of claim 1, transmitting first packets and transmitting second packets comprising concurrently transmitting the first packets and the second packets.

16. The method of claim 1, transmitting first packets comprising transmitting the first packets at a first time and transmitting second packets comprising transmitting the second packets at a second time after the first time.

17. The method of claim 1, the first subset of wireless devices not being configured to communicate over the secondary frequency channel.

18. An apparatus for high-efficiency wireless frequency division multiplexing, comprising:

means for determining a performance characteristic for each wireless device in a first basic service set (BSS);

means for categorizing each wireless device in the first BSS into a first subset of wireless devices or a second subset of wireless devices based on the performance characteristic;

means for transmitting first packets to the first subset of wireless devices using a primary frequency channel;

means for transmitting second packets to the second subset of wireless devices using a secondary frequency channel; and

means for transmitting a coordination packet to an access point in a second BSS indicating that the secondary frequency channel is used to communicate with the second subset of wireless devices, the access point in the second BSS transmitting third packets to a first set of wireless devices in the second BSS using the primary frequency channel and transmitting fourth packets to a second set of wireless devices in the second BSS using a ternary frequency channel in response to receiving the coordination packet.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, means for categorizing each wireless device in the first BSS comprising means for categorizing each wireless device in the first BSS into the second subset of wireless devices if the performance characteristic of the respective wireless device indicates that the respective wireless device experiences interference greater than a threshold value.

20. The apparatus of claim 18, further comprising means for receiving a request from a first wireless device in the first BSS to be categorized in the second subset of wireless devices.

21. The apparatus of claim 18, the performance characteristic comprising at least one of a signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), an RF geometry, a received signal strength indicator (RSSI), a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) value, an interference level, a signal level, a transmission capability, or a combination thereof.

22. The apparatus of claim 18, the primary channel frequency and the secondary frequency channel being contiguous in an operating bandwidth.

23. The apparatus of claim 18, the primary channel frequency and the secondary frequency channel not being contiguous in an operating bandwidth.

24. The apparatus of claim 18, means for transmitting first packets and means for transmitting second packets comprising means for concurrently transmitting the first packets and the second packets.

25. The apparatus of claim 18, means for transmitting first packets comprising means for transmitting the first packets at a first time and means for transmitting second packets comprising means for transmitting the second packets at a second time after the first time.

26. The apparatus of claim 18, the first subset of wireless devices not being configured to communicate over the secondary frequency channel.

27. The apparatus of claim 18, the means for determining and the means for categorizing comprising a classifier unit, the means for transmitting packets to the first subset, the means for transmitting packets to the second subset, and the means for transmitting the coordination packet comprising a transmitter.

28. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising code that, when executed, causes an apparatus to:

determine a performance characteristic for each wireless device in a first basic service set (BSS);

categorize each wireless device in the first BSS into a first subset of wireless devices or a second subset of wireless devices based on the performance characteristic;

transmit second packets to the first subset of wireless devices using a primary frequency channel;

transmit third packets to the second subset of wireless devices using a secondary frequency channel; and

transmit a coordination packet to an access point in a second BSS indicating that the secondary frequency channel is used to communicate with the second subset of wireless devices, the access point in the second BSS transmitting third packets to a first set of wireless devices in the second BSS using the primary frequency channel and transmitting fourth packets to a second set of wireless devices in the second BSS using a ternary frequency channel in response to receiving the coordination packet.

29. The medium of claim 28, further comprising code that, when executed, causes an apparatus to categorize each wireless device in the first BSS into the second subset of wireless devices if the performance characteristic of the respective wireless device indicates that the respective wireless device experiences interference greater than a threshold value.

30. The medium of claim 28, further comprising code that, when executed, causes an apparatus to receive a request from a first wireless device in the first BSS to be categorized in the second subset of wireless devices.

31. The medium of claim 28, the performance characteristic comprising at least one of a signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), an RF geometry, a received signal strength indicator (RSSI), a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) value, an interference level, a signal level, a transmission capability, or a combination thereof.

32. The medium of claim 28, the primary channel frequency and the secondary frequency channel being contiguous in an operating bandwidth.

33. The medium of claim 28, the primary channel frequency and the secondary frequency channel not being contiguous in an operating bandwidth.

34. The medium of claim 28, further comprising code that, when executed, causes an apparatus to concurrently transmit the first packets and the second packets.

35. The medium of claim 28, further comprising code that, when executed, causes an apparatus to:

transmit the first packets at a first time; and

transmit the second packets at a second time after the first time.

36. The medium of claim 28, the first subset of wireless devices not being configured to communicate over the secondary frequency channel.

37. An apparatus for high-efficiency wireless frequency division multiplexing, comprising:

a classifier unit configured to determine a performance characteristic for each wireless device in a first basic service set (BSS), the classifier unit further configured to categorize each wireless device in the first BSS into a first subset of wireless devices or a second subset of wireless devices based on the performance characteristic; and

a transmitter configured to transmit first packets to the first subset of wireless devices using a primary frequency channel, the transmitter further configured to transmit second packets to the second subset of wireless devices using a secondary frequency channel, the transmitter further configured to transmit a coordination packet to an access point in a second BSS indicating that the secondary frequency channel is used to communicate with the second subset of wireless devices, the access point in the second BSS transmitting third packets to a first set of wireless devices in the second BSS using the primary frequency channel and transmits fourth packets to a second set of wireless devices in the second BSS using a ternary frequency channel in response to receiving the coordination packet.

38. The apparatus of claim 37, the classifier unit further configured to categorize each wireless device in the first BSS into the second subset of wireless devices if the performance characteristic of the respective wireless device indicates that the respective wireless device experiences interference greater than a threshold value.

39. The apparatus of claim 37, further comprising a receiver configured to receive a request from a first wireless device in the first BSS to be categorized in the second subset of wireless devices.

40. The apparatus of claim 37, a first wireless device in the first BSS comprising a high-efficiency wireless component and a second wireless device in the first BSS not comprising a high-efficiency wireless component.

41. The apparatus of claim 40, the classifier unit further configured to categorize the second wireless device in the first subset of wireless devices or the second subset of wireless devices based on a bandwidth capability of the second wireless device.

42. The apparatus of claim 37, the performance characteristic comprising at least one of a signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), an RF geometry, a received signal strength indicator (RSSI), a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) value, an interference level, a signal level, a transmission capability, or a combination thereof.

43. The apparatus of claim 42, the first subset of wireless devices having a lower interference than the second subset of wireless devices.

44. The apparatus of claim 37, the primary channel frequency and the secondary frequency channel being contiguous in an operating bandwidth.

45. The apparatus of claim 37, the primary channel frequency and the secondary frequency channel not being contiguous in an operating bandwidth.

46. The apparatus of claim 37, the second frequency channel being a subset of the primary frequency channel.

47. The apparatus of claim 37, the transmitter further configured to transmit the second packets at a same time that the access point transmits fourth packets to the second set of wireless devices in the second BSS using the ternary frequency channel.

48. The apparatus of claim 47, further comprising a processor configured to schedule a time for transmissions of the second packets and the fourth packets.

49. The apparatus of claim 37, the transmitter further configured to transmit the first packets at a same time that the access point transmits third packets to the first set of wireless devices in the second BSS using the primary frequency channel.

50. The apparatus of claim 49, further comprising a processor configured to schedule a time for transmissions of the first packets and the third packets.

51. The apparatus of claim 37, the transmitter further configured to concurrently transmit the first packets and the second packets.

52. The medium of claim 37, the transmitter further configured to transmit the first packets at a first time and transmit the second packets at a second time after the first time.

53. The medium of claim 37, the first subset of wireless devices not being configured to communicate over the secondary frequency channel.
