Abstract

A process includes determining an unallocated communication frame of a first radio access technology (RAT) using a dedicated physical channel (DPCH) with a time division multiplexing scheme. Measurements are then performed to identify for a second RAT during a time allocated to the unallocated communication frame.

Claims

1. A method of wireless communication, comprising:

determining an unallocated communication frame of a first radio access technology (RAT) using a dedicated physical channel (DPCH) with a time division duplexing scheme; and

performing measurements to detect an available second RAT network during the unallocated communication frame.

2. The method of claim 1, in which the first RAT is a Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) network and the second RAT is a WiFi network.

3. The method of claim 1, in which the first RAT is a Time Division Duplex (TDD) network and the second RAT is a WiFi network.

4. The method of claim 1, in which the time division duplexing scheme comprises allocating odd frames to the first RAT for communications on the DPCH and not allocating even frames to the first RAT.

5. The method of claim 1, in which the time division duplexing scheme comprises allocating even frames to the first RAT for communications on the DPCH and not allocating odd frames to the first RAT.

6. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for determining an unallocated communication frame of a first radio access technology (RAT) using a dedicated physical channel (DPCH) with a time division duplexing scheme; and

means for performing measurements to detect an available second RAT network during the unallocated communication frame.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, in which the first RAT is a Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) network and the second RAT is a WiFi network.

8. The apparatus of claim 6 in which the first RAT is a Time Division Duplex (TDD) network and the second RAT is a WiFi network.

9. The apparatus of claim 6, in which the time division duplexing scheme comprises allocating odd frames to the first RAT for communications on the DPCH and not allocating even frames to the first RAT.

10. The apparatus of claim 6, in which the time division duplexing scheme comprises allocating even frames to the first RAT for communications on the DPCH and not allocating odd frames to the first RAT.

11. A computer program product for wireless communication in a wireless network, comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium having non-transitory program code recorded thereon, the program code comprising:

program code to determine an unallocated communication frame of a first radio access technology (RAT) using a dedicated physical channel (DPCH) with a time division duplexing scheme; and

program code to perform measurements to detect an available second RAT network during the unallocated communication frame.

12. The computer program product of claim 11, in which the first RAT is a Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) network and the second RAT is a WiFi network.

13. The computer program product of claim 11, in which the first RAT is a Time Division Duplex (TDD) network and the second RAT is a WiFi network.

14. The computer program product of claim 11, in which the time division duplexing scheme comprises allocating odd frames to the first RAT for communications on the DPCH and not allocating even frames to the first RAT.

15. The computer program product of claim 11, in which the time division duplexing scheme comprises allocating even frames to the first RAT for communications on the DPCH and not allocating odd frames to the first RAT.

16. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

a memory; and

at least one processor coupled to the memory, the at least one processor being configured;

to determine an unallocated communication frame of a first radio access technology (RAT) using a dedicated physical channel (DPCH) with a time division duplexing scheme; and

to perform measurements to detect an available second RAT network during the unallocated communication frame.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, in which the first RAT is a Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) network and the second RAT is a WiFi network.

18. The apparatus of claim 16, in which the first RAT is a Time Division Duplex (TDD) network and the second RAT is a WiFi network.

19. The apparatus of claim 16, in which the time division duplexing scheme comprises allocating odd frames to the first RAT for communications on the DPCH and not allocating even frames to the first RAT.

20. The apparatus of claim 16, in which the time division duplexing scheme comprises allocating even frames to the first RAT for communications on the DPCH and not allocating odd frames to the first RAT.
