Abstract

A method of feeding back channel information by a receiver in a communication system beam forming is provided. The method includes determining an optimum reception beam using intensities of reference signals received through transmission beams of a base station for a first period through a first path for mapping analog beams of an input signal, and determining an optimum transmission beam of the transmission beams using intensities of reference signals received through the optimum reception beam for a second period through a second path for mapping analog beams of the input signal, and transmitting channel information measured by using a reference signal received through the optimum transmission beam and the optical reception beam to a transmitter.

Claims

1. A method of transmitting channel information by a receiver in a communication system using beam forming, the method comprising:

determining an optimum reception beam using intensities of reference signals received through transmission beams of a base station for a first period through a first path for mapping analog beams of an input signal; and

determining an optimum transmission beam among the transmission beams using intensities of reference signals received through the optimum reception beam for a second period through a second path for mapping analog beams of the input signal; and

transmitting channel information measured by using a reference signal received through the optimum transmission beam and the optical reception beam to a transmitter.

The method of claim 1, wherein the transmitting of the channel information comprises, when a request for a report of channel information is received from the transmitter, transmitting the channel information in a period set according to the total number of reportable beams determined by the transmitter.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving period information for transmitting the channel information determined according to a total number of paths from the transmitter.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the second period is set to a time section between the first period and the following first period.

The method of claim 4, further comprising, when the second period comprises a plurality of subframes, reporting information on the optimum reception beam in a first subframe of the subframes and re-determining an optimum reception beam based on intensities of the reference signals received through the optimum reception beam in a second subframe.

The method of claim 5, further comprising, when the re-determined optimum reception beam is different from the optimum reception reported by the first subframe, transmitting channel information measured by using the re-determined optimum reception beam and a reference signal received through the optimum reception beam in the second subframe to the transmitter.

7. A method of receiving channel information by a transmitter in a communication system using beam forming, the method comprising:

requesting a feedback on channel information of a receiver; and

receiving the channel information in a period set based on a number of paths for mapping analog beams of an input signal of the receiver.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

after requesting the feedback, receiving information on the number of paths from the receiver; and

calculating the period using the number of paths and forwarding information on the calculated period to the receiver.

9. The method of claim 7, further comprising after requesting the feedback, receiving information on the period from the receiver,

wherein the period is determined by the receiver according to a total number of reportable beams determined by the transmitter.

10. A receiver for transmitting channel information in a communication system using beam forming, the receiver comprising:

a controller that determines an optimum reception beam using intensities of reference signals received through reception beams of a base station for a first period through a first path for mapping analog beams of an input signal, and determines an optimum transmission beam of the transmission beams using the intensities of the reference signals received through the optimum reception beam for a second period through a second path for mapping analog beams; and

a transceiver that transmits channel information measured by using a reference signal received through the optimum transmission beam and the optimum reception beam according to an instruction of the controller to the transmitter.

The receiver of claim 10, wherein, upon recognizing that a report request of channel information is received from the transmitter through the transceiver, the controller controls the transceiver such that the channel information is transmitted in a period set according to the total number of reportable beams determined by the transmitter.

12. The receiver of claim 10, wherein period information of a feedback of the channel information determined according to a total number of the paths is received from the transmitter through the transceiver.

13. The receiver of claim 10, wherein the second period is set to a time section between the first period and the following first period.

The receiver of claim 13, wherein, when the second period comprises a plurality of subframes, the controller controls such that information on the optimum reception beam in a first subframe of the subframes is reported through the transceiver, and re-determines an optimum reception beam based on intensities of the reference signals received through the optimum reception beam in a second subframe.

The receiver of claim 14, wherein, when the re-determined optimum reception beam is different from the optimum reception reported by the first subframe, the controller controls the transceiver such that channel information measured by using the re-determined optimum reception beam and a reference signal received through the optimum reception beam in the second subframe is transmitted to the transmitter.

16. An apparatus of receiving channel information in a communication system using beam forming, the apparatus comprising:

a controller that controls a transceiver such that a request for a feedback of channel information of a receiver is transmitted; and

the transceiver that receives the channel information in a period set based on a number of paths for mapping for analog beams of an input signal of the receiver.

The apparatus of claim 16, wherein, after the request, upon recognizing that information on the number of paths from the receiver through the transceiver, the controller calculates the period using the number of paths and controls the transceiver such that information on the calculated period is forwarded to the receiver.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein, after the request, the transceiver receives information on the period from the receiver, and wherein the period is determined by the receiver according to a total number of reportable beams determined by the transmitter.
