Abstract

An approach for retrieving and storing telephone numbers along with related contextual information associated with inbound/outbound communications to/from a device. The approach includes a method that includes combining, by at least one processing device, identification information of an entity and a related communication mechanism used to initiate a communication to a device. The method further includes providing, by the at least one processing device, a soft record that includes the identification information and the related communication mechanism.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

combining, by at least one processing device, identification information of an entity and a related communication mechanism used to initiate a communication to a device associated with the entity; and

providing, by the at least one processing device, a soft record that includes the identification information and the related communication mechanism.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising generating a display of the soft record that includes the identification information and the related communication mechanism.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the identification information includes at least one of:

geographic location information;

name of the entity;

an image of the entity; and

an address associated with the entity.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising storing the soft record within a call history log, wherein the soft record is deleted upon deletion of incoming or outgoing call logs.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the related communication mechanism is at least one of:

a telephone number, Internet Protocol (IP) address, and a communication associated with at least one of a SMS message, MMS message, email message, and text message.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the combining of the identification information and the related communication mechanism occurs when the communication is initiated by an initiating device, and further comprising saving the soft record within a call history log stored by the initiating device.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the combining of the identification information and the related communication mechanism occurs on a receiving device when the communication is initiated by an initiating device.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the identification information and the related communication mechanism are obtained from a search result and the combining the identification information and the related communication mechanism occurs on an application server when the application server receives a notification that an initiating device has initiated the communication associated with the search results obtained by the application server.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the soft record is provided by using Hyper-Text Markup Language (HTML).

The method of claim 1, wherein the combining the identification information and the related communication mechanism are provided by a network server which provides the soft record by obtaining the identification information and providing the identification information and the related communication mechanism to an initiating device.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein a service provider at least one of creates, maintains, deploys and supports computer information.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein steps of claim 1 are provided by a service provider on a subscription, advertising, and/or fee basis.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing a computer infrastructure operable to perform the steps of claim 1.

14. A system comprising:

a CPU, a computer readable memory and a computer readable storage media;

program instructions to obtain a search request comprising at least a communication mechanism and identification information associated with the communication mechanism;

program instructions to combine the communication mechanism and the associated identification information, upon an initiation of a communication;

program instructions to generate a soft record based on the initiation of the communication; and

program instructions to save the soft record which is displayable on an initiating device initiating the communication,

wherein the program instructions are stored on the computer readable storage media for execution by the CPU via the computer readable memory.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the communication is associated with at least one of a telephone call, SMS message, MMS message, text message, and email message.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the identification information includes a name, a geographic location, or an image.

17. The system of claim 14, wherein the search request is associated with a web-page application stored by an application server, and the application server is programmed to generate the soft record, wherein the application server sends the soft record to the initiating device for storage in a call history log.

18. The system of claim 14, wherein the initiating device generates the soft record by requesting the identification information associated with the communication obtained from a search result initiated by the initiating device from an application server or a network server.

19. The system of claim 14, wherein a network server generates the soft record by obtaining the identification information upon receiving a search result, providing the search result to the initiating device, and the initiating device initiating the communication.

20. A computer program product comprising a computer usage storage device having readable program code embodied in the storage device, the computer program product includes at least one component operable to:

receive a search request;

send the search request to an application server;

receive search results from the application server based on the search request;

send the search results to a device;

receive a communication request from the device based on the device receiving a selection of a particular search result from the search results;

send a request for contextual information to the application server based on receiving the communication request;

receive the contextual information from the application server, wherein the contextual information includes an identifier associated with the particular search result;

generate a soft record, wherein the soft record includes the contextual information and a telephone number associated with the communication request; and

send the soft record to the device, wherein the device displays the identifier associated with the particular search result.
