Abstract

Disclosed are methods, apparatus, systems, and computer program products for identifying relevant feed items to display in a feed of an enterprise social networking system. A plurality of data items from one or more of a plurality of data sources may be identified as relevant to a user by satisfying one or more relevancy parameters comprising: a data source providing the data item being one of an inner circle of data sources, content of the data item being identifiable using an interest graph associated with the user, the data item comprising a mention of the user, and the data item being designated as relevant to a group or an organization with which the user is associated. A highlights feed can include the identified data items as feed items. The feed items can be arranged according to a determined characteristic of each data item.

Claims

1. Apparatus for identifying relevant feed items to display in a feed of an enterprise social networking system, the apparatus comprising:

one or more processors operable to execute one or more instructions configured to cause;

identifying a plurality of data items from one or more of a plurality of data sources in an enterprise social networking system as being relevant to a user of the enterprise social networking system, each data item identified as being relevant by satisfying one or more of a plurality of relevancy parameters comprising;

a data source providing the data item being one of an inner circle of data sources wherein the inner circle defines a subset of data sources with which the user interacts, content of the data item being identifiable using an interest graph associated with the user, the data item comprising a mention of the user, and the data item being designated as relevant to a group or an organization with which the user is associated;

determining a characteristic of each data item according to satisfaction of the one or more relevancy parameters; and

providing a highlights feed to be presented on a display device, the highlights feed comprising a plurality of channels of data, each channel corresponding to a respective one or more of the relevancy parameters, the highlights feed comprising the identified data items as feed items to be displayed according to the determined characteristic.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the characteristic is a score associated with satisfaction of the one or more relevancy parameters.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein identifying the plurality of data items comprises:

applying a filter having the plurality of relevancy parameters.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the relevancy parameters further comprise:

the data item being related to a record with which the user has a working relationship.

5. The one or more servers of claim 1, wherein the relevancy parameters further comprise:

content of the data item being identifiable using an interest graph associated with the group or the organization that the user is a part of.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, the one or more processors operable to execute one or more instructions configured to further cause:

updating the highlights feed in response to a user input, the user input specifying that at least one of the data items is not relevant to the user.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, the one or more processors operable to execute one or more instructions configured to further cause:

updating the interest graph associated with the user based on user input corresponding to user activity with respect to one of the plurality of data sources.

8. The apparatus of claim 7, the one or more processors operable to execute one or more instructions configured to further cause:

updating the characteristics of one or more data items based on the update to the interest graph; and

updating the highlights feed in relation to the one or more data items according to the updated characteristics.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, the one or more processors operable to execute one or more instructions configured to further cause:

updating the one or more relevancy parameters or one or more weights associated with the relevancy parameters using one or more of a;

machine learning process, a heuristic process, and a regression process.

10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the inner circle comprises users, groups, communities, database records, and combinations thereof with which the user interacts with at or exceeding a designated frequency in the enterprise social networking system.

11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the interest graph associated with the user identifies subject matter with which the user interacts at or exceeding a designated frequency in the enterprise social networking system.

12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein relevance of a data item to a group or an organization is based at least in part on a level of importance indicated by one or more other users regarding the data item.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the relevance of the data item to the group or the organization is further based on sharing of one or more attributes by the user with the one or more other users.

14. A computer-implemented method for identifying relevant feed items to display in a feed of an enterprise social networking system, the method comprising:

identifying, at one or more servers, a plurality of data items from one or more of a plurality of data sources in an enterprise social networking system as being relevant to a user of the enterprise social networking system, each data item identified as being relevant by satisfying one or more of a plurality of relevancy parameters comprising;

a data source providing the data item being one of an inner circle of data sources wherein the inner circle defines a subset of data sources with which the user interacts, content of the data item being identifiable using an interest graph associated with the user, the data item comprising a mention of the user, and the data item being designated as relevant to a group or an organization with which the user is associated;

determining a characteristic of each data item according to satisfaction of the one or more relevancy parameters; and

providing a highlights feed to be presented on a display device, the highlights feed comprising a plurality of channels of data, each channel corresponding to a respective one or more of the relevancy parameters, the highlights feed comprising the identified data items as feed items to be displayed according to the determined characteristic.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein identifying the plurality of data items comprises:

applying a filter having the plurality of relevancy parameters.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the relevancy parameters further comprise:

the data item being related to a record with which the user has a working relationship.

17. The method of claim 14, further comprising:

updating the one or more relevancy parameters or one or more weights associated with the relevancy parameters using one or more of a;

machine learning process, a heuristic process, and a regression process.

18. A computer program product comprising computer-readable program code to be executed by one or more processors when retrieved from a non-transitory computer-readable medium for identifying relevant feed items to display in a feed of an enterprise social networking system, the program code including instructions configured to cause:

identifying, at one or more servers, a plurality of data items from one or more of a plurality of data sources in an enterprise social networking system as being relevant to a user of the enterprise social networking system, each data item identified as being relevant by satisfying one or more of a plurality of relevancy parameters comprising;

a data source providing the data item being one of an inner circle of data sources wherein the inner circle defines a subset of data sources with which the user interacts, content of the data item being identifiable using an interest graph associated with the user, the data item comprising a mention of the user, and the data item being designated as relevant to a group or an organization with which the user is associated;

determining a characteristic of each data item according to satisfaction of the one or more relevancy parameters; and

providing a highlights feed to be presented on a display device, the highlights feed comprising a plurality of channels of data, each channel corresponding to a respective one or more of the relevancy parameters, the highlights feed comprising the identified data items as feed items to be displayed according to the determined characteristic.

19. The computer program product of claim 18, wherein the relevancy parameters further comprise:

the data item being related to a record with which the user has a working relationship.

20. The computer program product of claim 18, the program code further including instructions configured to cause:

updating the one or more relevancy parameters or one or more weights associated with the relevancy parameters using one or more of a;

machine learning process, a heuristic process, and a regression process.
