Abstract

Methods and systems for configuring computing devices using mobile workspace contexts based on proximity to locations are described herein. A mobile computing device determines that the device is proximate to a location, another device, or an individual associated with an enterprise system. The mobile computing device may then receive a mobile workspace context associated with the location, device, or individual, such as one or more specific wireless networks, enterprise applications, and/or documents, and may configure the device based on the received mobile workspace context. Additional methods and systems are described herein for transmitting and receiving sets of device capabilities between multiple devices, establishing communication sessions, and sharing various capabilities between devices. Still additional methods and systems are described for determining and accessing the capabilities of enterprise system resources using mobile computing devices in an enterprise system.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

capturing, by a mobile computing device, input data corresponding to a proximately located device, location, or individual;

determining, by the mobile computing device, a resource based on the input data captured by the mobile computing device;

retrieving, by the mobile computing device, a set of capabilities associated with the resource, from a server; and

accessing, by the mobile computing device, one or more of the capabilities associated with the resource.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the resource corresponds to a computing device, and wherein retrieving the capabilities associated with the computing device comprises at least one of:

receiving device driver software for the computing device from the server;

receiving network connection data for the computing device from the server;

or

receiving a set of functional capabilities supported by the computing device from the server.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the resource corresponds to a location, and wherein retrieving the capabilities associated with the location comprises at least one of:

receiving scheduling data for the location from the server;

or

receiving a listing of computing devices available at the location, from the server.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the resource corresponds to a badge, placard, or facial image identifying an individual, and wherein retrieving the capabilities associated with the resource comprises at least one of:

receiving at least one of a name, a phone number, an address, an e-mail address, or calendar information associated with the individual, from the server.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein capturing the input data comprises at least one of:

capturing image or video input data received via a camera of the mobile device;

capturing bar code data received via a bar code scanner of the mobile device;

capturing data received from a near field communication tag;

or

capturing data corresponding to a wireless network signal via a network interface of the mobile device.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of retrieving or accessing the capabilities associated with the resource comprises using single sign on (SSO) functionality to access a plurality of servers associated with the resource.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

overlaying, on a display of the mobile computing device, a real-time image or video input representing the resource with computer-generated data corresponding to the set of retrieved capabilities associated with the resource.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein retrieving the set of capabilities associated with the resource comprises:

transmitting information corresponding to at least one of a user identity or authentication credentials of a user of the mobile computing device; and

receiving the set of capabilities from the server, wherein the received set of capabilities is based on the at least one of the user identity or authentication credentials of the user of the mobile computing device.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the resource based on the input data captured by the mobile computing device comprises:

analyzing the captured input data to determine a type of the captured input data; and

transmitting the captured input data to an appropriate resource or service based on the determined type of the captured input data.

10. An apparatus comprising:

a processor; and

memory storing computer readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to;

receive data captured by a mobile computing device, the data corresponding to a device, location, or individual;

identify a resource based on the data captured by the mobile computing device;

retrieve a set of capabilities associated with the resource; and

transmit the set of capabilities to the mobile computing device.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the resource corresponds to a computing device, and wherein the set of capabilities associated with the computing device comprises at least one of:

device driver software for the computing device;

network connection data for the computing device;

or

a set of functional capabilities supported by the computing device.

12. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the resource corresponds to a location, and wherein the set of capabilities associated with the location comprises at least one of:

scheduling data for the location;

or

a listing of computing devices available at the location.

13. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the resource corresponds to a badge, placard, or facial image identifying an individual, and wherein the set of capabilities associated with the resource comprises at least one of a name, a phone number, an address, an e-mail address, or calendar information associated with the individual.

14. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein retrieving the set of capabilities associated with the resource comprises:

receiving information corresponding to at least one of a user identity or authentication credentials of a user of the mobile computing device; and

retrieving the set of capabilities from a computer storage, wherein the received set of capabilities is based on the at least one of the user identity or authentication credentials of the user of the mobile computing device.

15. A system comprising:

a server; and

one or more mobile computing devices, each of said mobile computing devices comprising;

a processor; and

memory storing computer readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the mobile computing device to;

capture input data corresponding to a proximately located device, location, or individual;

determine a resource based on the captured input data captured;

retrieve a set of capabilities associated with the resource, from a server; and

access or more of the capabilities associated with the resource.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the resource corresponds to a computing device, and wherein retrieving the capabilities associated with the computing device comprises at least one of:

receiving device driver software for the computing device from the server;

receiving network connection data for the computing device from the server;

or

receiving a set of functional capabilities supported by the computing device from the server.

17. The system of claim 15, wherein the resource corresponds to a location, and wherein retrieving the capabilities associated with the location comprises at least one of:

receiving scheduling data for the location from the server;

or

receiving a listing of computing devices available at the location, from the server.

18. The system of claim 15, wherein the resource corresponds to a badge, placard, or facial image identifying an individual, and wherein retrieving the capabilities associated with the resource comprises at least one of:

receiving at least one of a name, a phone number, an address, an e-mail address, or calendar information associated with the individual, from the server.

19. The system of claim 15, wherein retrieving the set of capabilities associated with the resource comprises:

transmitting information corresponding to at least one of a user identity or authentication credentials of a user of the mobile computing device; and

receiving the set of capabilities from the server, wherein the received set of capabilities is based on the at least one of the user identity or authentication credentials of the user of the mobile computing device.

20. The system of claim 15, wherein determining the resource based on the data captured by the mobile computing device comprises:

analyzing the captured data to determine a type of the captured data; and

transmitting the captured data to an appropriate resource or service based on the determined type of the captured data.
