Abstract

Managing a tracking area list in a wireless communication system is provided. An operation of a Mobile Station (MS) includes transmitting a request for tracking area update for a 1st tracking area, receiving a tracking area list to which the 1st tracking area and a 2nd tracking area are added, and updating a stored tracking area list by the tracking area list to which the 1st tracking area and the 2nd tracking area are added.

16. A method for an operation of a mobile station (MS) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting a request for tracking area update for a first tracking area;

receiving a tracking area list to which the first tracking area and a second tracking area are added; and

updating a stored tracking area list by the tracking area list to which the first tracking area and the second tracking area are added.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the second tracking area is a congestion tracking area where at least one of an access attempt count through a random access channel, an access failure count, and an access failure rate exceeds a threshold, and

wherein the first tracking area is a neighbor tracking area of the second tracking area.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the first tracking area and the second tracking area are comprised in a common mobile profile presented in tracking area lists of a plurality of MSs.

19. A method for operation of a node managing the mobility of a mobile station (MS) and a tracking area list thereof in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

determining a bundle relationship between tracking areas, the bundle relationship representing the relationship of, although there is a request for tracking area update for one tracking area among a plurality of tracking areas, comprising not only the update-requested tracking area but also the remnant tracking areas together in the tracking area list of the MS;

if there is a request for tracking area update for a first tracking area from the MS, determining whether a second tracking area having the bundle relationship with the first tracking area exists; and

adding the first tracking area and the second tracking area in the tracking area list of the MS.

The method of claim 19, wherein determining the bundle relationship comprises determining the bundle relationship between a congestion tracking area where at least one of an access attempt count through a random access channel, an access failure count, and an access failure rate exceeds a threshold and at least one neighbor tracking area of the congestion tracking area.

21. The method of claim 20, further comprising:

receiving at least one report on per-cell congestion occurrence from at least one base station (BS); and

determining the congestion tracking area based on the at least one report.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein determining the congestion tracking area comprises:

determining the ranking of congestion in the tracking area unit using the cell-unit congestion or non-congestion; and

determining at least one congestion tracking area according to the ranking.

23. The method of claim 20, wherein determining the congestion tracking area comprises receiving a notification of the congestion tracking area from a node controlling a network configuration.

24. The method of claim 19, wherein determining the bundle relationship comprises determining the bundle relationship between tracking areas comprised in a common mobile profile presented in tracking area lists of a plurality of MSs.

25. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

comparing the tracking area lists of the plurality of MSs with each other; and

identifying the same mobile profile presented in the tracking area lists of the plurality of MSs.

26. The method of claim 24, wherein determining the congestion tracking area comprises receiving a notification of the common mobile profile from a node controlling a network configuration.

27. A method of operation of a node controlling a network configuration in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

generating information for determining a bundle relationship between tracking areas, the bundle relationship representing the relationship of, although there is a request for tracking area update for one tracking area among a plurality of tracking areas, comprising not only the update-requested tracking area but also the remnant tracking areas together in a tracking area list of a mobile station (MS); and

transmitting the information for determining the bundle relationship, to a node managing tracking area lists of MSs.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein generating the information for determining the bundle relationship comprises:

receiving at least one report on per-cell congestion occurrence from at least one base station (BS); and

determining the congestion tracking area based on the at least one report.

29. The method of claim 28, wherein determining the congestion tracking area comprises:

determining the ranking of congestion in the tracking area unit using the cell-unit congestion or non-congestion; and

determining at least one congestion tracking area according to the ranking.

30. The method of claim 27, wherein generating the information for determining the bundle relationship comprises:

receiving the tracking area lists of the MSs from the node managing the tracking area lists of the MSs; and

identifying the same mobile profile presented in the tracking area lists of the MSs.

31. A mobile station (MS) apparatus in a wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:

a modulator/demodulator (MODEM) configured to send a message of transmitting a request for tracking area update for a first tracking area, and receive a tracking area list to which the first tracking area and a second tracking area are added; and

a controller configured to update a stored tracking area list by the tracking area list to which the first tracking area and the second tracking area are added.

32. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the second tracking area is a congestion tracking area where at least one of an access attempt count through a random access channel, an access failure count, and an access failure rate exceeds a threshold, and

wherein the first tracking area is a neighbor tracking area of the second tracking area.

33. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the first tracking area and the second tracking area are comprised in a common mobile profile presented in tracking area lists of a plurality of MSs.

34. A node apparatus for managing the mobility of a mobile station (MS) and a tracking area list thereof in a wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:

a storage unit configured to store information of a bundle relationship between tracking areas, the bundle relationship representing the relationship of, although there is a request for tracking area update for one tracking area among a plurality of tracking areas, comprising not only the update-requested tracking area but also the remnant tracking areas together in the tracking area list of the MS; and

a controller configured to determine the bundle relationship and, if there is a request for tracking area update for a first tracking area from the MS, determine whether a second tracking area having the bundle relationship with the first tracking area exists, and add the first tracking area and the second tracking area in the tracking area list of the MS.

The apparatus of claim 34, wherein the controller is configured to determine the bundle relationship between a congestion tracking area where at least one of an access attempt count through a random access channel, an access failure count, and an access failure rate exceeds a threshold and at least one neighbor tracking area of the congestion tracking area.

36. The apparatus of claim 35, further comprising a communication unit configured to receive at least one report on per-cell congestion occurrence from at least one base station (BS),

wherein the controller is configured to determine the congestion tracking area based on the at least one report.

37. The apparatus of claim 36, wherein the controller is configured to determine the ranking of congestion in the tracking area unit based on the at least one report, and determine at least one congestion tracking area based on the ranking.

38. The apparatus of claim 35, further comprising a communication unit configured to receive a notification of the congestion tracking area from a node controlling a network configuration.

39. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein the controller is configured to determine the bundle relationship between tracking areas comprised in a common mobile profile presented in tracking area lists of a plurality of MSs.

40. The apparatus of claim 39, wherein the controller is configured to compare the tracking area lists of the plurality of MSs with each other, and identify the same mobile profile presented in the tracking area lists of the plurality of MSs.

41. The apparatus of claim 39, wherein the controller is configured to receive a notification of the common mobile profile from a node controlling a network configuration.

42. A node apparatus for controlling a network configuration in a wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:

a controller configured to generate information for determining a bundle relationship between tracking areas, the bundle relationship representing the relationship of, although there is a request for tracking area update for one tracking area among a plurality of tracking areas, comprising not only the update-requested tracking area but also the remnant tracking areas together in a tracking area list of a mobile station (MS); and

a communication unit configured to transmit the information for determining the bundle relationship, to a node managing tracking area lists of MSs.

43. The apparatus of claim 42, wherein the communication unit is configured to receive at least one report on per-cell congestion occurrence from at least one base station (BS),

wherein the controller is configured to determine the congestion tracking area based on the at least one report.

44. The apparatus of claim 43, wherein the controller is configured to determine the ranking of congestion in the tracking area unit based on the at least one report, and determine at least one congestion tracking area based on the ranking.

45. The apparatus of claim 42, wherein the controller is configured to receive the tracking area lists of the MSs from the node managing the tracking area lists of the MSs, and identify the same mobile profile presented in the tracking area lists of the MSs.
