Abstract

A method for customizing a device during order fulfillment is described. A processing device receives an order for an electronic device, the order comprising customization information that is stored in a memory. The processing device wirelessly transmits the customization information into an electronic tag embedded in the electronic device while the electronic device is enclosed in associated packaging.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a processing device, an order for an electronic device, the order comprising customization information;

storing, by the processing device, the customization information; and

wirelessly transmitting, by the processing device, the customization information into an electronic tag embedded in the electronic device, while the electronic device is still enclosed in associated packaging.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the customization information comprises at least one of wireless network configuration information for allowing the electronic device to connect to a wireless network using the wireless network configuration information, account login information for allowing the electronic device to access an account using the account login information, location information for allowing the electronic device to determine a location of the electronic device using the location information, or a startup message for allowing the electronic device to display the startup message upon being powered up.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the customization information is wirelessly transmitted into the electronic tag embedded in the given electronic device without disturbing the associated packaging.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein wirelessly transmitting the customization information into the electronic tag comprises transmitting the customization information through packaging completely enclosing the electronic device.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the electronic tag comprises at least one of a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag or a near field communication (NFC) tag.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the electronic tag comprises a passive RFID tag.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein wirelessly transmitting the customization information into the electronic tag comprises wirelessly powering the electronic tag such that the electronic tag is powered without drawing power to a main processing device of the electronic device or from a main battery of the electronic device.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising encrypting the customization information before wirelessly transmitting the customization information into the electronic tag and wherein wirelessly transmitting the customization information comprises wirelessly transmitting the encrypted customization information.

9. A method comprising:

receiving, by a processing device, an order for an electronic device, the order comprising customization information;

storing, by the processing device, the customization information; and

wirelessly transmitting, by the processing device, the customization information into an electronic tag embedded in the electronic device without drawing power to a main processing device of the electronic device or from a main battery of the electronic device.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the electronic device comprises a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag, the RFID tag comprising at least one of an RFID processing device or an RFID battery, wherein wirelessly transmitting the customization information into the electronic tag comprises drawing power to the RFID processing device or from the RFID battery.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the customization information comprises at least one of wireless network configuration information for allowing the electronic device to connect to a wireless network using the wireless network configuration information, account login information for allowing the electronic device to access an account using the account login information, location information for allowing the electronic device to determine a location of the electronic device using the location information, or a startup message for allowing the electronic device to display the startup message upon being powered up.

12. The method of claim 9, wherein the customization information is wirelessly transmitted into the electronic tag without disturbing associated packaging of the electronic device.

13. The method of claim 9, wherein wirelessly transmitting the customization information into the electronic tag comprises transmitting the customization information through packaging completely enclosing the electronic device.

14. The method of claim 9, further comprising encrypting the customization information before wirelessly transmitting the customization information into the electronic tag and wherein wirelessly transmitting the customization information comprises wirelessly transmitting the encrypted customization information.

15. A system comprising:

a memory;

a wireless transmitter; and

a processing device coupled to the memory and the wireless transmitter, the processing device to;

receive an order for an electronic device, the order comprising customization information;

store the customization information in the memory; and

wirelessly transmit, via the wireless transmitter, the customization information into an electronic tag embedded in the electronic device, while the electronic device is still enclosed in associated packaging.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the customization information comprises at least one of wireless network configuration information to allow the electronic device to connect to a wireless network using the wireless network configuration information, account login information to allow the electronic device to access an account using the account login information, location information to allow the electronic device to determine a location of the electronic device using the location information, or a startup message to allow the electronic device to display the startup message upon being powered up.

17. The system of claim 15, wherein the customization information is wirelessly transmitted into the electronic tag embedded in the given electronic device without disturbing the associated packaging.

18. The system of claim 15, wherein the associated packaging completely encloses the electronic device.

19. The system of claim 15, wherein the wireless transmitter powers the electronic tag such that the electronic tag is powered without drawing power to a main processing device of the electronic device or from a main battery of the electronic device.

20. The system of claim 15, wherein the processing device is further to encrypt the customization information before wirelessly transmitting the customization information into the electronic tag and wherein the processing device is to wirelessly transmit the customization information into the electronic tag by wirelessly transmitting the encrypted customization information into the electronic tag.
