Abstract

In some embodiments, a multifunction device with a display and a touch-sensitive surface creates a plurality of workspace views. A respective workspace view is configured to contain content assigned by a user to the respective workspace view. The content includes application windows. The device displays a first workspace view in the plurality of workspace views on the display without displaying other workspace views in the plurality of workspace views and detects a first multifinger gesture on the touch-sensitive surface. In response to detecting the first multifinger gesture on the touch-sensitive surface, the device replaces display of the first workspace view with concurrent display of the plurality of workspace views.

2. A method, comprising:

at a multifunction device with a touch-sensitive display;

displaying, on the display, a first workspace view without displaying other workspace views in a plurality of workspace views, wherein a respective workspace view contains an application window;

while displaying the first workspace view without displaying other workspace views in the plurality of workspace views, detecting a multi-finger gesture on the display;

in response to detecting the multi-finger gesture on the display;

in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger gesture is movement of multiple fingers on the display in a first direction, replacing the display of the first workspace view with concurrent display of the plurality of workspace views; and

in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger gesture is movement of multiple fingers on the display in a second direction different from the first direction, replacing the display of the first workspace view with display of another workspace view in the plurality of workspace views, without displaying other workspace views in the plurality of workspace views.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the concurrent display of the plurality of workspace views comprises displaying the plurality of workspace views in an array of non-overlapping regions on the display.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein detecting the multi-finger gesture on the display comprises detecting movement of two or more fingers on the display.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the multi-finger gesture is a five finger gesture.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the movement of multiple fingers on the display in the second direction is a horizontal swipe gesture of the multiple fingers on the display.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein the movement of multiple fingers on the display in the first direction comprises a pinch-in gesture of the multiple fingers on the display.

8. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

while concurrently displaying the plurality of workspace views on the display, displaying a predefined area with a plurality of application icons corresponding to the respective application windows contained in the plurality of workspace views.

9. The method of claim 2, wherein detecting the multi-finger gesture on the display comprises detecting an initial touchdown of the multiple fingers, movement and subsequent lift off of the multiple fingers within a predefined time period.

10. A non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions stored thereon, the instructions, when executed by one or more processors of an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display, cause the device to perform operations comprising:

displaying, on the display, a first workspace view without displaying other workspace views in a plurality of workspace views, wherein a respective workspace view contains an application window;

while displaying the first workspace view without displaying other workspace views in the plurality of workspace views, detecting a multi-finger gesture on the display;

in response to detecting the multi-finger gesture on the display;

in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger gesture is movement of multiple fingers on the display in a first direction, replacing the display of the first workspace view with concurrent display of the plurality of workspace views; and

in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger gesture is movement of multiple fingers on the display in a second direction different from the first direction, replacing the display of the first workspace view with display of another workspace view in the plurality of workspace views, without displaying other workspace views in the plurality of workspace views.

11. The medium of claim 10, wherein the concurrent display of the plurality of workspace views comprises displaying the plurality of workspace views in an array of non-overlapping regions on the display.

12. The medium of claim 10, wherein detecting the multi-finger gesture on the display comprises detecting movement of two or more fingers on the display.

13. The medium of claim 10, wherein the multi-finger gesture is a five finger gesture.

14. The medium of claim 10, wherein the movement of multiple fingers on the display in the second direction is a horizontal swipe gesture of the multiple fingers on the display.

15. The medium of claim 10, wherein the movement of multiple fingers on the display in the first direction comprises a pinch-in gesture of the multiple fingers on the display.

16. The medium of claim 10, wherein the operations further comprise:

while concurrently displaying the plurality of workspace views on the display, displaying a predefined area with a plurality of application icons corresponding to the respective application windows contained in the plurality of workspace views.

17. The medium of claim 10, wherein detecting the multi-finger gesture on the display comprises detecting an initial touchdown of the multiple fingers, movement and subsequent lift off of the multiple fingers within a predefined time period.

18. An electronic device, comprising:

a touch-sensitive display;

one or more processors;

memory having instructions stored thereon, the instructions, when executed by one or more processors, cause the device to perform operations comprising;

displaying, on the display, a first workspace view without displaying other workspace views in a plurality of workspace views, wherein a respective workspace view contains an application window;

while displaying the first workspace view without displaying other workspace views in the plurality of workspace views, detecting a multi-finger gesture on the display;

in response to detecting the multi-finger gesture on the display;

in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger gesture is movement of multiple fingers on the display in a first direction, replacing the display of the first workspace view with concurrent display of the plurality of workspace views; and

in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger gesture is movement of multiple fingers on the display in a second direction different from the first direction, replacing the display of the first workspace view with display of another workspace view in the plurality of workspace views, without displaying other workspace views in the plurality of workspace views.

19. The device of claim 18, wherein the concurrent display of the plurality of workspace views comprises displaying the plurality of workspace views in an array of non-overlapping regions on the display.

20. The medium of claim 18, wherein detecting the multi-finger gesture on the display comprises detecting movement of two or more fingers on the display.

21. The medium of claim 18, wherein the multi-finger gesture is a five finger gesture.

22. The medium of claim 18, wherein the movement of multiple fingers on the display in the second direction is a horizontal swipe gesture of the multiple fingers on the display.

23. The medium of claim 18, wherein the movement of multiple fingers on the display in the first direction comprises a pinch-in gesture of the multiple fingers on the display.

24. The medium of claim 18, wherein the operations further comprise:

while concurrently displaying the plurality of workspace views on the display, displaying a predefined area with a plurality of application icons corresponding to the respective application windows contained in the plurality of workspace views.

25. The medium of claim 18, wherein detecting the multi-finger gesture on the display comprises detecting an initial touchdown of the multiple fingers, movement and subsequent lift off of the multiple fingers within a predefined time period.
