Abstract

The present invention refers to a data processing method for planning an infusion of a medical substance into a target region in an anatomical body part, wherein the medical substance is to be infused by means of an infusion setup which comprises an infusion device for performing the infusion as well as the medical substance, the method comprising:

• • a) acquiring relationship data comprising relationship information which describes a relationship between at least one physical parameter of the infusion setup and a predetermined spatial distribution of the medical substance;
  • b) acquiring target coverage data comprising target coverage information describing a planned coverage of the target region by the medical substance;
  • c) determining infusion setup data comprising infusion setup information which describes a planned infusion setup, based on the relationship data and the target coverage data.

Claims

1. A data processing method for planning an infusion of a medical substance into a target region in an anatomical body part, wherein the medical substance is to be infused by means of an infusion setup which comprises an infusion device for performing the infusion as well as the medical substance, the method comprising:

a) acquiring target region geometry data comprising target region geometry information describing the geometry of the target region;

b) acquiring target coverage data comprising target coverage information describing a planned coverage of the target region by the medical substance, wherein the target coverage data is acquired based on the target region geometry data;

c) acquiring, based on selecting a predetermined spatial distribution of the medical substance in the target region based on the target coverage data, relationship data comprising relationship information which describes a relationship between at least one physical parameter of the infusion setup and a predetermined spatial distribution of the medical substance, wherein the physical parameter describes at least one of a geometric or surface property of the infusion device, a fluid dynamic property of the medical substance and time;

d) determining infusion setup data comprising infusion setup information which describes a planned infusion setup, based on the relationship data and the target coverage data.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the geometric property is at least one of the tip length, diameter or number of outlets or position of a catheter used for infusing the medical substance.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the surface property is at least one of a surface roughness of an inner and/or outer surface of a catheter or a topology of a catheter used for infusing the medical substance.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the fluid dynamic property is at least one of pressure, flow rate, flow velocity, fluid resistance, viscosity and density in the medical substance during the infusion.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the predetermined spatial distribution of the medical substance has at least substantially a shape of a rotational solid, in particular a convex and/or closed rotational solid, in particular an ellipsoid and/or has a geometry which can be described by a finite number of geometric parameters, in particular at least one parameter.

10. The method according to, claim 1, wherein the relationship data is acquired based on selecting a predetermined spatial distribution, wherein the predetermined spatial distribution is selected based on the target region geometry data.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the at least one physical parameter is determined based on adapting the predetermined spatial distribution to fit the planned coverage and, when the predetermined spatial distribution of the medical substance has at least substantially a shape of rotational solid based on adapting the parameter describing the geometry of the spatial distribution in order to adapt the predetermined spatial distribution to fit the planned coverage.

12. The method according to claim 1, wherein the predetermined spatial distribution and the planned coverage describe at least one of a geometry and a concentration distribution of the medical substance in the target region.

13. The method according to claim 1, wherein the relationship data has been determined based on information about at least one geometric property of the infusion device and at least one fluid dynamic property of the medical substance.

14. The method according to claim 1, wherein a medical treatment plan is determined based on the infusion setup data.

15. A computer program embodied on a non-transitory computer readable medium which, when running on a computer or when loaded onto a computer, causes the computer to perform

a data processing method for planning an infusion of a medical substance into a target region in an anatomical body part, wherein the medical substance is to be infused by means of an infusion setup which comprises an infusion device for performing the infusion as well as the medical substance, the method comprising:

a) acquiring target region geometry data comprising target region geometry information describing the geometry of the target region;

b) acquiring target coverage data comprising target coverage information describing a planned coverage of the target region by the medical substance, wherein the target coverage data is acquired based on the target region geometry data;

c) acquiring, based on selecting a predetermined spatial distribution of the medical substance in the target region based on the target coverage data, relationship data comprising relationship information which describes a relationship between at least one physical parameter of the infusion setup and a predetermined spatial distribution of the medical substance, wherein the physical parameter describes at least one of a geometric or surface property of the infusion device, a fluid dynamic property of the medical substance and time; and

d) determining infusion setup data comprising infusion setup information which describes a planned infusion setup, based on the relationship data and the target coverage data.
