Abstract

A system and method for authorizing a transaction that includes a transaction device configured to send over a network information relating to a transaction and a commerce card and a transaction processing device configured to receive over the network the information sent by the transaction device and information sent from a mobile device associated with the commerce card. The transaction processing device is configured to authorize the transaction based on the information received from the transaction device and the information received from the mobile device. The transaction processing device can also authorize the transaction at last in part on criteria associated with the commerce card.

Claims

1. A method of authorizing a transaction, comprising:

receiving, by a transaction processing device over a network, information relating to a transaction and a commerce card sent by a transaction device;

receiving, by the transaction processing device over a network, information sent from a mobile device associated with the commerce card; and

authorizing, by the transaction processing device, the transaction based on the information received from the transaction device and the information received from the mobile device.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

sending, by the transaction processing device, information relating to the authorizing of the transaction to the transaction device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the information received from the mobile device includes location information of the mobile device; and

the authorizing includes comparing a location of the transaction device with the location information sent from the mobile device.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining, by the transaction processing device, a location of the transaction device;

wherein;

the information received from the mobile device includes location information of the mobile device; and

the authorizing includes comparing the determined location of the transaction device with the location information sent from the mobile device.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the information received from the mobile device includes a pin number or password; and

the authorizing includes comparing the pin number or password received from the mobile device with a pin number or password associated with the commerce card or the transaction.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the information received from the mobile device includes an image; and

the authorizing includes comparing the image received from the mobile device with an image associated with the commerce card or the transaction.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the authorizing includes generating a risk level based on the information received from the transaction device and the information received from the mobile device, and wherein the method further comprises:

sending, by the transaction processing device, the risk level to the transaction device.

8. A system for authorizing a transaction, comprising:

a transaction device configured to send over a network information relating to a transaction and a commerce card;

a transaction processing device configured to receive over the network the information sent by the transaction device and information sent from a mobile device associated with the commerce card, wherein the transaction processing device is configured to authorize the transaction based on the information received from the transaction device and the information received from the mobile device.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the transaction processing device is further configured to send information relating to the authorizing of the transaction to the transaction device.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein:

the information received from the mobile device includes location information of the mobile device; and

the transaction processing device is configured to authorize the transaction by comparing a location of the transaction device with the location information sent from the mobile device.

11. The system of claim 8, wherein the transaction processing device is further configured to determine a location of the transaction processing device;

and

wherein;

the information received from the mobile device includes location information of the mobile device; and

the transaction processing device is further configured to authorize the transaction by comparing the determined location of the transaction device with the location information sent from the mobile device.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein:

the information received from the mobile device includes a pin number or password; and

the transaction processing device is configured to authorize the transaction by comparing the pin number or password received from the mobile device with a pin number or password associated with the commerce card or the transaction.

13. The system of claim 8, wherein:

the information received from the mobile device includes an image; and

the transaction processing device is configured to authorize the transaction by comparing the image received from the mobile device with an image associated with the commerce card or the transaction.

14. The system of claim 8, wherein the transaction processing device is configured to generate a risk level based on the information received from the transaction device and the information received from the mobile device, and to send the risk level to the transaction device.

15. A method of authorizing a transaction, comprising:

receiving, by a transaction processing device over a network, information relating to a transaction and a commerce card sent by a transaction device;

authorizing, by the transaction processing device, the transaction based on the information sent by the transaction device and based at least in part on criteria associated with the commerce card, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card includes at least one of;

allowed geographical area(s);

allowed geographical area type(s);

allowed merchant(s);

allowed merchant type(s);

allowed merchant store(s);

allowed merchant store type(s);

allowed time period(s);

allowed products or service(s);

allowed type(s) or brand(s) of good(s) or service(s);

past transactions involving the commerce card; and

information related to the transaction from an external source.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising:

sending, by the transaction processing device, information relating to the authorizing of the transaction to the transaction device.

17. The method of claim 15, further comprising:

receiving, by the transaction processing device over the network, information from a user device or a mobile device selecting the criteria associated with the commerce card.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed geographical area(s).

19. The method of claim 18, further comprising:

determining, by the transaction processing device, a location of the transaction device;

wherein the authorizing includes comparing the determined location of the transaction device with the allowed geographical area(s).

20. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed geographical area type(s).

21. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed time period(s).

22. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed product(s) or service(s).

23. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant type(s).

24. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed type(s) or brand(s) of good(s) or service(s).

25. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant(s) and the allowed geographical area(s).

26. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant(s) and the allowed geographical area type(s).

27. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant store(s) and the allowed geographical area(s).

28. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant store type(s) and the allowed geographical area(s).

29. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant(s) and the allowed time period(s).

30. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant(s), and the allowed product(s) or service(s), and the allowed time period(s).

31. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed time period(s) and the allowed geographical area(s).

32. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed product(s) or service(s) and the allowed merchant(s).

33. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the past transactions involving the commerce card.

34. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the past transactions involving the commerce card and the allowed time period(s).

35. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the past transactions involving the commerce card and the allowed geographical area(s).

36. The method of claim 15, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes information related to the transaction from an external source.

37. A system for authorizing a transaction, comprising:

a transaction device configured to send over a network information relating to a transaction and a commerce card;

a transaction processing device configured to receive the information sent by the transaction device and configured to authorize the transaction based on the informing sent by the transaction device and based at least in part on criteria associated with the commerce card, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card includes at least one of;

allowed geographical area(s);

allowed geographical area type(s);

allowed merchant(s);

allowed merchant type(s);

allowed merchant store(s);

allowed merchant store type(s);

allowed time period(s);

allowed products or service(s);

allowed type(s) or brand(s) of good(s) or service(s);

past transactions involving the commerce card; and

information related to the transaction from an external source.

38. The system of claim 37, wherein the transaction processing device is further configured to send information relating to the authorizing of the transaction to the transaction device.

39. The system of claim 37, wherein the transaction processing device is further configured to receive over the network information from a user device or a mobile device selecting the criteria associated with the commerce card.

40. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed geographical area(s).

41. The system of claim 40, wherein the transaction processing device is further configured to determine a location of the transaction device, and to perform the authorizing by at least comparing the determined location of the transaction device with the allowed geographical area(s).

42. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed geographical area type(s).

43. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed time period(s).

44. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed product(s) or service(s).

45. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant type(s).

46. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed type(s) or brand(s) of good(s) or service(s).

47. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant(s) and the allowed geographical area(s).

48. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant(s) and the allowed geographical area type(s).

49. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant store(s) and the allowed geographical area(s).

50. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant store type(s) and the allowed geographical area(s).

51. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant(s) and the allowed time period(s).

52. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed merchant(s), and the allowed product(s) or service(s), and the allowed time period(s).

53. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed time period(s) and the allowed geographical area(s).

54. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the allowed product(s) or service(s) and the allowed merchant(s).

55. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the past transactions involving the commerce card.

56. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the past transactions involving the commerce card and the allowed time period(s).

57. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes the past transactions involving the commerce card and the allowed geographical area(s).

58. The system of claim 37, wherein the criteria associated with the commerce card upon which the authorizing is based includes information related to the transaction from an external source.
