Abstract

A mobile apparatus determines whether it is disposed in a vehicle and, based on a determining that it is in the vehicle, automatically presents a first user interface (UI) that is simplified and/or easier to manipulate while driving relative to a second UI that would otherwise be presented.

Claims

1. Apparatus comprising:

at least one computer readable storage medium that is not a carrier wave and that is accessible to a client processor and bearing instructions which when executed by the client processor configure the processor to execute logic to execute a method comprising;

based on a determination that the client processor is in a vehicle, automatically presenting on a display a user interface (UT) in a first configuration for allowing selection of one of plural applications represented on the UI; and

based on a determination that the client processor is not in a vehicle, automatically presenting on the display the UI in a second configuration for allowing selection of one of plural applications represented on the UI, the second configuration being different from the first configuration.

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plural applications are represented on the UI by selectable tiles, the first configuration presenting relatively fewer tiles than the second configuration and/or presenting tiles in at least one larger dimension relative to tiles presented in the second configuration.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the UI in the first configuration is automatically presented on the display based on a determination that the client processor is in the vehicle and that the vehicle is in gear.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the display is a client device display, the client device including the client processor.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first and second configurations differ relative to each other based on the particular applications represented on the UI.

6. A method, comprising:

determining whether a client device is disposed in a vehicle, and

based on a determination that the client device is disposed in a vehicle, automatically presenting a first user interface (UI) on a display of the client device including relatively less information than a second UI presentable on the display, the second UI being presentable on the display based on a determination that the client device is not disposed in a vehicle.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein information presented on both of the first and second UIs includes at least one icon selectable to invoke an application associated with the icon, the first UI presenting relatively fewer icons than the second UI.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the first UI includes at least one icon selectable to invoke an application, the application configured to predict at least one of the following based on movement of the vehicle:

a person likely to be contacted using the client device, and an estimated time of arrival at a destination at which the client device has been previously located and toward which the vehicle is moving at or around the time of invocation of the application.

The method of claim 7, further comprising predicting at least one application likely to be invoked by a user of the client device and presenting the respective icon associated therewith on the display, the predicting at least being based on past selection of at least one application previously invoked while the vehicle was in motion.

10. The method of claim 7, further comprising predicting at least one application likely to be invoked by a user of the client device and presenting the respective icon associated therewith on the display, the predicting at least being based on at least one of the following:

the frequency an application is invoked, the location of the client device, the time of day, recent invocation of at least one other application than the one to be predicted to be invoked, and driving conditions at or around the location of the client device when the predicting occurs.

The method of claim 6, wherein the method further includes, after a determination that the client device is disposed in a vehicle and based on a determination that the vehicle'"'"'s transmission has been transitioned from being in gear to a park position, automatically presenting the second UI.

12. Apparatus comprising:

at least one computer readable storage medium that is not a carrier wave and that is accessible to a client processor and bearing instructions which when executed by the client processor configure the processor to execute logic to execute a method comprising;

determining whether a user activity trigger satisfies a test, the user activity trigger being motion of a client device associated with the client processor as represented by a signal input to the client processor and/or the user activity trigger being a use of the client device to execute a predetermined application;

responsive to a determination that the user activity trigger satisfies the test, present a first output on the client device; and

responsive to a determination that the user activity trigger does not satisfy the test, present a second output on the client device, the second output being different from the first output.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the client processor is supported by the client device.

14. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the activity trigger is motion above a threshold.

15. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the activity trigger is use of the client device to execute the predetermined application.

16. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the first and second outputs are respective notifications.

17. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the first output includes information related to a first application and the second output includes information related to a second application different from the first application.

18. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the first output includes user contact information for at least a first contact and the second output includes user contact information for at least a second contact.

19. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the first output is a notification and the second output is invocation of an application.

20. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the first output is invocation of an application and the second output is a notification.
