Abstract

A meter configured to perform a blood analysis is presented where the meter has a housing, the housing having an aperture configured to receive a body part of a user. The meter also having a plurality of light sources supported by the housing and a controller configured to control the plurality of light sources to indicate an operational status of the apparatus.

14. An apparatus comprising a meter configured to perform a blood analysis, the meter having:

a housing, the housing having an aperture configured to receive a body part of a user;

a display screen configured to indicate an operational status of the apparatus;

a plurality of light sources supported by the housing wherein each of the light sources emits a visibly different colour of light; and

a controller configured to control the plurality of light sources to indicate the operational status of the apparatus.

15. The apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the meter is a blood glucose meter configured to perform a blood glucose measurement.

16. The apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the meter is further configured to elicit a blood sample from the body part of the user.

17. The apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the meter further comprises at least one proximity sensor disposed within the housing and wherein the controller is further configured to:

receive signals from the at least one proximity sensor; and

determine from the signals whether a body part of a user is present within the aperture.

18. The apparatus according to claim 17, wherein the controller is further configured to permit lancing of the body part only when it is determined that the body part of the user is present in the aperture.

19. The apparatus according to claim 17, wherein the controller is further configured to determine from the signals whether a body part protrudes by a required amount within the aperture.

20. The apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the controller is configured to activate a first of the plurality of light sources during a lancing operation.

21. The apparatus according to claim 20, wherein the first light source emits red light.

22. The apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the controller is configured to activate a second of the plurality of light sources during the blood analysis.

23. The apparatus according to claim 22, wherein the second light source emits orange light.

24. The apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the controller is configured to activate a third of the plurality of light sources when the blood analysis is complete.

25. The apparatus according to claim 24, wherein the third light source emits green light.

26. The apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the controller is configured to cause at least one of the light sources to flash.
