Abstract
A method of treating a patient for ventricular tachycardia using a wearable defibrillator includes monitoring the patient for a predetermined condition via one or more electrodes on the defibrillator, sending a message to the patient in response to the predetermined condition, activating the defibrillator so that the defibrillator delivers defibrillation energy to the patient, and storing at least one of the results of the monitoring, sending and activating steps in a memory on the defibrillator. The method also includes downloading information stored in the memory of the defibrillator to a base station having an external interface, and transmitting the information downloaded from the memory of the base station to an external location via the external interface of the base station.

2. A wearable defibrillator for delivering defibrillation energy to a patient, the wearable defibrillator comprising:

a wearable electrode harness assembly permitting long-term patient body wear including; an attachment structure; a plurality of sensing electrodes, disposed at different spatially arranged locations about the attachment structure providing desired placement locations on a thoracic region of the patient when worn; a plurality of electrical leads each respectively coupled with one of the plurality of sensing electrodes; and a wearable defibrillator housing configured to be worn at a waistline location of the patient including; a connector at least partially located on an exterior portion of the wearable defibrillator housing that couples with the plurality of electrical leads of the wearable electrode harness assembly; an accelerometer that detects patient motion; circuitry that monitors the patient and controls defibrillation energy, including; a processor configured to analyze signals from the plurality of sensing electrodes and, in response, control transmission of defibrillation energy to the patient; a voice chip that stores a plurality of prerecorded voice messages that include at least one audible prompt, the voice chip interfaced with the processor and operatively coupled via a voice driver to an auditory indicator that provides the at least one audible prompt; and a memory that stores a log of patient information over a time period that includes data from the accelerometer relating to motion of the patient; and a battery supply that supplies power to the circuitry. - View Dependent Claims (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11)

12. A wearable defibrillator for delivering defibrillation energy to a patient, the wearable defibrillator comprising:

a wearable electrode harness assembly permitting long-term patient body wear including; an attachment structure; a plurality of sensing electrodes, disposed at different spatially arranged locations about the attachment structure providing desired placement locations on a thoracic region of the patient when worn; a plurality of electrical leads each respectively coupled with one of the plurality of sensing electrodes; and a wearable defibrillator housing configured to be worn at a waistline location of the patient including; a connector at least partially located on an exterior portion of the wearable defibrillator housing that couples with the plurality of electrical leads of the wearable electrode harness assembly; circuitry that monitors the patient and controls defibrillation energy, including; a processor configured to analyze signals from the plurality of sensing electrodes and, in response, control transmission of defibrillation energy to the patient; a voice chip that stores a plurality of prerecorded voice messages that include at least one audible prompt, the voice chip interfaced with the processor and operatively coupled via a voice driver to an auditory indicator that provides the at least one audible prompt; and a memory that stores a log of patient information over a time period; and a battery supply that supplies power to the circuitry; wherein the auditory indicator provides an auditory error condition message regarding inoperability of the defibrillator based on electrode-to-skin impedance. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16)

17. A method of delivering defibrillation energy to a patient using a wearable defibrillator, the method comprising:

providing a wearable defibrillator, the wearable defibrillator including; a wearable electrode harness assembly permitting long-term patient body wear including; an attachment structure; a plurality of sensing electrodes, disposed at different spatially arranged locations about the attachment structure corresponding with desired placement locations on a thoracic region of the patient when worn; a plurality of electrical leads each respectively coupled with one of the plurality of sensing electrodes; and a wearable defibrillator housing configured to be worn at a waistline location of the patient including; a connector at least partially located on an exterior portion of the wearable defibrillator housing that couples with the plurality of electrical leads of the wearable electrode harness assembly; circuitry that monitors the patient and controls defibrillation energy, including; a processor configured to analyze signals from the plurality of sensing electrodes and, in response, control transmission of defibrillation energy to the patient; a voice chip that stores a plurality of prerecorded voice messages that include at least one audible prompt, the voice chip interfaced with the processor and operatively coupled via a voice driver to an auditory indicator that provides the at least one audible prompt; and a memory that stores a log of patient information over a time period; and a battery supply that supplies power to the circuitry; causing the wearable defibrillator to detect electrode-to-skin impedance from the patient using the plurality of sensing electrodes, the electrode-to-skin impedance being indicative of whether the plurality of sensing electrodes are attached to the patient; and providing an auditory error condition message from the auditory indicator regarding inoperability of the defibrillator when electrode-to-skin impedance is not within a predetermined range.
