Abstract

Sleep monitoring and stimulation comprises collecting actigraphy data from a user. The user'"'"'s sleep phase is determined using the actigraphy data. At least one stimulation, determined at least in part on the sleep phase, is directed towards the user. Subsequent actigraphy data is collected from the user. The actigraphy data and subsequent actigraphy data is used to determine the user'"'"'s subsequent sleep phase. The stimulation is modified, based at least in part upon the subsequent sleep phase.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

a. collecting from at least one actigraphy device, actigraphy data from a user;

b. determining the user'"'"'s sleep phase employing the actigraphy data; and

c. causing at least one stimulation device to direct a stimulation towards the user, the stimulation determined, at least in part, on the sleep phase.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

a. collecting from the at least one actigraphy device, subsequent actigraphy data from the user; and

b. determining the user'"'"'s subsequent sleep phase employing actigraphy data and subsequent actigraphy data.

3. The method according to claim 1, further comprising determining when the user changes between two sleep phases, employing, at least in part, data collected during prior sleep sessions.

4. The method according to claim 1, further comprising modifying the stimulation based upon the subsequent sleep phase.

5. The method according to claim 1, further comprising modifying the stimulation within a sleep phase.

6. The method according to claim 1, further comprising modifying the stimulation based on time spent in a sleep phase.

7. The method according to claim 1, further comprising modifying the stimulation when the actigraphy data indicates that the user is changing sleep phases.

8. The method according to claim 1, further stopping the stimulation when the actigraphy data indicates that the user is waking.

9. The method according to claim 1, wherein the stimulation comprises a multitude of stimulations.

10. The method according to claim 1, wherein the stimulation comprises a multitude of stimulations and one of the multitude of stimulations comprises at least one inactive stimulation.

11. The method according to claim 1, wherein the sleep phase may comprise at least one of the following:

a. rapid eye movement sleep phase (REM);

b. N1 sleep phase;

c. N2 sleep phase;

d. N3 sleep phase;

e. a light sleep phase;

f. a deep sleep phase; and

g. an awake phase.

12. The method according to claim 1, wherein the actigraphy data comprises body motion data.

13. The method according to claim 1, wherein the actigraphy data is enhanced with heart rate data.

14. The method according to claim 1, wherein the actigraphy data is enhanced with physiological data, the physiological data comprising at least one of the following:

a. sound data;

b. breathing rate data;

c. blood pulse data;

d. blood pressure data;

e. temperature data;

f. blood oxygenation data;

g. perspiration data;

h. electromyography data;

i. electroencephalography data;

j. location data; and

k. a combination thereof.

15. The method according to claim 1, wherein the at least one stimulation device comprises an auditory device.

16. The method according to claim 1, wherein the at least one stimulation device comprises a tactile stimulation device.

17. The method according to claim 1, wherein the stimulation comprises at least one of the following:

a. a neuro-stimulation;

b. a light stimulation;

c. an odor stimulation; and

d. a combination of the above.

18. A system comprising:

a. at least one actigraphy device;

b. at least one stimulation device; and

c. at least one processing device comprising;

i. at least one first communications port configured to;

1. communicate with at least one actigraphy device; and

2. control at least one stimulation device;

ii. at least one processor configured to execute machine executable instructions; and

iii. at least one memory device configured to store machine executable instructions configured to cause the at least one processor to;

1. collect from at least one actigraphy device, actigraphy data from a user;

2. determine the user'"'"'s sleep phase employing the actigraphy data; and

3. cause at least one stimulation device to direct a stimulation towards the user, the stimulation determined, at least in part, on the sleep phase.

19. The system according to claim 18, wherein the machine executable instructions are further configured to cause the at least one processor to:

a. collect from at least one actigraphy device, subsequent actigraphy data from the user; and

b. determine the user'"'"'s subsequent sleep phase employing actigraphy data and subsequent actigraphy data.

20. The system according to claim 18, wherein the at least one processing device is at least one of the following:

a. a computer;

b. a mobile device;

c. a tablet;

d. a cell phone;

e. an implantable device;

f. an attachable device;

g. a bed based device;

h. a wearable device; and

i. a combination of the above.
