1. A system for detecting an amount or concentration of an analyte in vivo within a living organism, said system comprising:

  • A. an analyte sensor module configured to be implanted, in vivo, within the living organism and comprising;

    (1) indicator elements configured to exhibit a detectable property based on the amount or concentration of the analyte in proximity to the indicator elements; and

    (2) sensor elements configured to generate a data signal based on the detectable property exhibited by said indicator elements; and

    B. a transmitter module configured to be implanted subcutaneously within the living organism at a different location than said analyte sensor module and tethered to said analyte sensor module by one or more transmission elements configured to convey data signals generated by said sensor elements from said analyte sensor module to said transmitter module, said transmitter module comprising an antenna configured for conveying radio frequency signals.
