Abstract

Provided is a method for controlling charging in a mobile terminal. The method includes, applying a voltage to a charger upon detecting a connection to the charger via a cable; transmitting a signal for requesting charging to the charger, and switching a charging mode; and charging a power that is received from the charger according to the switched charging mode.

Claims

1. A method for controlling charging in a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

applying a voltage to a charger upon detecting a connection to the charger via a cable;

transmitting a signal for requesting charging to the charger, and switching to a charging mode; and

charging a power received from the charger according to the charging mode.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the switching comprises switching from a first charging mode based on a Voltage BUS (VBUS) line connected to the charger to a second charging mode based on the VBUS line and a positive data line D+.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the switching comprises switching to the charging mode upon detecting a voltage output from the charger in response to the applied voltage.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the cable comprises a positive data line D+, a negative data line D−

, a VBUS line, and a Ground (GND) line.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting a charging ending signal to the charger, if the charging is completed or the connection to the charger is released.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the received power is power received in response to detecting that a connection between a VBUS line and a positive data line is switched on and a connection between the positive data line and a negative data line is switched off in the charger.

7. A mobile terminal for controlling charging, the mobile terminal comprising:

a connection unit configured to connect with a charger via a cable;

a controller configured to, upon detecting a connection to the charger, apply a voltage to the charger, to transmit a signal for requesting charging to the charger, and to switch to a charging mode; and

a power supply unit configured to charge power received from the charger according to the charging mode.

8. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein the controller is configured to switch from a first charging mode based on a Voltage BUS (VBUS) line connected to the charger to a second charging mode based on the VBUS line and a positive data line D+.

9. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein the controller is configured to switch to the charging mode upon detecting a voltage output from the charger in response to the applied voltage.

10. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein the received power is power received in response to detecting that a connection between a VBUS line and a positive data line is switched on and a connection between the positive data line and a negative data line is switched off in the charger.

11. The mobile terminal of claim 7, wherein the controller is configured to upon detecting the connection to the charger, apply a voltage to the charger via a negative data line, and activate the charging mode upon detecting a voltage received from the charger via a positive data line.

12. A method for supplying power to a mobile terminal in a charger, the method comprising:

detecting a connection to the mobile terminal via a cable;

controlling switching between a plurality of lines included in the cable in response to detecting the connection; and

supplying power to the mobile terminal via at least two lines according to the controlled switching.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the controlling switching comprises switching on a connection between a voltage BUS (VBUS) line and a positive data line included in the cable.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein the controlling switching comprises switching off a connection between a positive data line D+ and a negative data line D−

included in the cable.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein the cable comprises a positive data line D+, a negative data line D−

, a VBUS line, and a Ground (GND) line.

16. The method of claim 12, wherein the controlling switching comprises controlling to switch off a connection between a VBUS line and a positive data line, and a connection between a negative data line and a GND line, if a charging ending signal is received from the mobile terminal as the charging is completed or the connection to the charger is released.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the controlling further comprises controlling to switch on a connection between the positive data line and the negative data line.

18. The method of claim 12, wherein supplying power comprises having a connection between a VBUS line and a positive data line switched on and a connection between the positive data line and a negative data line switched off.

19. A charger for supplying power to a mobile terminal, the charger comprising:

a connection unit configured to connect with the mobile terminal via a cable; and

a controller configured to control switching between a plurality of lines included in the cable in response to detecting a connection with the mobile terminal and to supply power to the mobile terminal via at least two lines according to the controlled switching.

20. The charger of claim 19, wherein the controller is configured to switch on a connection between a voltage BUS (VBUS) line and a positive data line included in the cable.

21. The charger of claim 19, wherein the controller is configured to switch off a connection between a positive data line D+ and a negative data line D−

included in the cable.

22. The charger of claim 19, wherein the cable comprises a positive data line D+, a negative data line D−

, a VBUS line, and a Ground (GND) line.

23. The charger of claim 19, wherein the controller is configured to switch off a connection between a VBUS line and a positive data line, and a connection between a negative data line and a GND line, if a charging ending signal is received from the mobile terminal as the charging is completed or the connection to the charger is released.

24. The charger of claim 23, wherein the controller is configured to turn on a connection between the positive data line and the negative data line.

25. The charger of claim 19, wherein the controller is configured to supply power to the mobile terminal via a VBUS line and a positive data line included in the cable.
