1. A system for countering disruption to a voice recognition system in a vehicle caused by a source of noise in proximity to the vehicle, comprising:

  • an in-vehicle microphone that obtains a voice signal for input to the voice recognition system;

    a plurality of sensors each operative to sense a condition external to the vehicle;

    a tangible data processor coupled to the sensors and in data communication with a memory on which is stored instructions which when executed on the processor implement a noise analyzer operative, based on the sensed conditions, to;

    identify a source of noise external to the vehicle and approaching the vehicle;

    determine a likelihood that the noise source will disrupt operation of the voice recognition system; and

    estimate an amount of time remaining before the disruption is likely to begin; and

    means for instantiating a countermeasure to the disruption based on the noise source identity, the likelihood of the disruption, and the estimated time remaining.
