Abstract

Methods and apparatus to collect distributed user information for media impressions is disclosed. An example method includes receiving an encrypted identifier and media impression information collected from a mobile device, sending the encrypted identifier to a database proprietor associated with collection of mobile device presence information at a merchant location, receiving user information associated with the encrypted identifier from the first database proprietor, and associating at least one of the merchant location or the user information with the media impression information.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving an encrypted identifier and media impression information collected from a mobile device;

sending the encrypted identifier to a database proprietor associated with collection of mobile device presence information at a merchant location;

receiving user information associated with the encrypted identifier from the database proprietor; and

associating, using a processor, at least one of the merchant location or the user information with the media impression information.

2. A method as defined in claim 1, further comprising:

determining an advertised entity from the media impression information; and

determining whether the database proprietor is associated with the advertised entity.

3. A method as defined in claim 2, further comprising associating the advertised entity with the user information.

4. A method as defined in claim 3, wherein the user information comprises demographic information of a person corresponding to the user information.

5. A method as defined in claim 2, further comprising determining that an advertisement impression in the impression information resulted in or is correlated with a user associated with the user information approaching the advertised entity.

A method as defined in claim 1, further comprising adding the media impression information to second impression information associated with an unencrypted identifier, the encrypted identifier and the unencrypted identifier each identifying at least one of the mobile device or a user of the mobile device.

7. A method as defined in claim 6, wherein the second impression information includes third impression information associated with a second merchant location.

8. An apparatus, comprising:

a server to;

receive an encrypted identifier and media impression information collected from a mobile device;

send the encrypted identifier to a database proprietor associated with collection of mobile device presence information at a merchant location; and

receive user information associated with the encrypted identifier from the database proprietor; and

an impression matcher to associate at least one of the merchant location or the user information with the media impression information.

9. An apparatus as defined in claim 8, wherein the impression matcher is to:

query an advertisement database to determine an advertised entity from the media impression information; and

determine whether the database proprietor is associated with the advertised entity.

10. An apparatus as defined in claim 9, wherein the impression matcher is to associate the advertised entity with the user information.

11. An apparatus as defined in claim 9, wherein the impression matcher is to determine that an advertisement impression in the impression information resulted in or is correlated with a user associated with the user information approaching the advertised entity.

An apparatus as defined in claim 8, further comprising a media impressions database to store the media impression information in association with an unencrypted identifier, the encrypted identifier and the unencrypted identifier each identifying at least one of the mobile device or a user of the mobile device.

13. An apparatus as defined in claim 12, wherein impression information stored in the media impressions database includes second impression information associated with a second merchant location.

14. A tangible computer readable storage medium comprising computer readable instructions which, when executed, cause a logic circuit to at least:

access an encrypted identifier and media impression information collected from a mobile device;

send the encrypted identifier to a database proprietor associated with collection of mobile device presence information at a merchant location;

access user information associated with the encrypted identifier and received from the database proprietor; and

associate at least one of the merchant location or the user information with the media impression information.

15. A storage medium as defined in claim 14, wherein the instructions are further to cause the logic circuit to:

determine an advertised entity from the media impression information; and

determine whether the database proprietor is associated with the advertised entity.

16. A storage medium as defined in claim 15, wherein the instructions are further to cause the logic circuit to associate the advertised entity with the user information.

17. A storage medium as defined in claim 16, wherein the user information comprises demographic information of a person corresponding to the user information.

18. A storage medium as defined in claim 15, wherein the instructions are further to cause the logic circuit to determine that an advertisement impression in the impression information resulted in a user associated with the user information approaching the advertised entity.

19. A storage medium as defined in claim 14, wherein the instructions are further to cause the logic circuit to add the media impression information to second impression information associated with an unencrypted identifier, the encrypted identifier and the unencrypted identifier each identifying at least one of the mobile device or a user of the mobile device.

20. A storage medium as defined in claim 19, wherein the second impression information includes third impression information associated with a second merchant location.
