21. A system for continuous in vivo measurement of glucose in a host, the system comprising:

a continuous glucose sensor configured for implantation in a host and configured to measure in vivo a signal indicative of a glucose concentration, wherein the continuous glucose sensor comprises an electrode, wherein the electrode comprises a metal oxide and a plurality of sensing elements, wherein each sensing element comprises an electroactive surface, and wherein each sensing element is configured to detect the signal related to glucose concentration; a biocompatible membrane located over at least a portion of the electrode, wherein the biocompatible membrane is configured to reduce a flux of glucose therethrough; and sensor electronics operably connected to the continuous glucose sensor, wherein the sensor electronics are configured to process the signal from the continuous glucose sensor. - View Dependent Claims (22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36)
