Abstract

An electronic device including a processor communicably coupled to a display component wherein the processor is configured to generate and display an interactive icon on the display component. The interactive icon includes a primary item and at least one alternative item, and the processor is configured to visually prioritize the presentation of the primary item on the display component relative to the presentation of the alternative item.

21. A method comprising:

obtaining, by a computing device, contextual information associated with the computing device;

determining, by the computing device, based at least in part on the contextual information, a primary subset of functions from a plurality of functions of the computing device determined to be more relevant to the contextual information than a secondary subset of functions of the plurality of functions other than the primary subset of functions; and

outputting, for display, a respective graphical element for each of the plurality of functions, wherein the respective graphical elements for each of the functions of the primary subset are output for display more prominently than the respective graphical elements for each of the functions of the secondary subset.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein outputting the respective graphical element for each of the plurality of functions comprises:

outputting, for display, the respective graphical elements for the functions of the secondary subset at a perimeter region of a display device; and

outputting, for display, the respective graphical elements for the functions of the primary subset inside the perimeter region of the display device.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein outputting the respective graphical element for each of the plurality of functions comprises outputting, for display, the respective graphical elements for the functions of the primary subset with a greater amount of brightness than the respective graphical elements for the functions of the secondary subset.

24. The method of claim 21, further comprising:

determining, by the computing device, based on the contextual information, an activity associated with a user of the computing device, wherein determining the primary subset of functions comprises identifying each function of the plurality of functions that is associated with the activity.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein:

the activity associated with the user comprises sleeping, and

at least one of the functions of the primary subset comprises at least one of displaying a weather report or displaying a task list associated with the user.

26. The method of claim 24, wherein:

the activity associated with the user comprises driving, and

at least one of the functions of the primary subset comprises displaying a list of frequently dialed contacts.

27. The method of claim 21, further comprising:

determining, by the computing device, based on the contextual information, a location of the computing device, wherein determining the primary subset of functions comprises identifying each function of the plurality of functions that is associated with the location.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein:

the location associated with the user comprises at least one of an office environment or a theatre, and

at least one of the functions of the primary subset comprises at least one of

     1) executing an application associated with the office environment or the theatre or

     2) displaying options for changing an alert profile of the computing device.

29. A computing device comprising:

a display component;

at least one sensor configured to capture contextual information associated with the computing device; and

at least one processor configured to;

obtain, from the at least one sensor, the contextual information;

determine, based at least in part on the contextual information, a primary subset of functions from a plurality of functions of the computing device determined to be more relevant to the contextual information than a secondary subset of functions of the plurality of functions other than the primary subset of functions; and

output, for display at the display component, a respective graphical element for each of the plurality of functions, wherein the respective graphical elements for each of the primary subset of functions are output for display more prominently than the respective graphical elements associated with each of the secondary subset of functions.

30. The computing device of claim 29, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to determine, based on the contextual information, an activity associated with a user of the computing device, and determine the primary subset of functions by at least identifying each function of the plurality of functions that is associated with the activity.

31. The computing device of claim 30, wherein the activity associated with the user comprises at least one of sleeping, driving, walking, or exercising.

32. The computing device of claim 29, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to determine, based on the contextual information, a location of the computing device, and determine the primary subset of functions by at least identifying each function of the plurality of functions that is associated with the location.

33. The computing device of claim 32, wherein the location associated with the user comprises an office environment and at least one function of the primary subset of functions comprises executing an application associated with the office environment.

34. The computing device of claim 33, wherein the application associated with the office environment is an e-mail application.

35. The computing device of claim 32, wherein the location associated with the user comprises at least one of an office environment or a theatre and at least one of the subset of functions comprises displaying options for changing an alert profile of the computing device.

36. The computing device of claim 32, wherein the at least one sensor comprises at least one of an accelerometer or a positioning sensor.

37. The computing device of claim 29, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to output the respective graphical element for each of the plurality of functions by at least:

outputting, for display, each of the respective graphical elements for each of the functions of the secondary subset with at least one of a first size or a first color; and

outputting, for display, each of the respective graphical elements for each of the functions of the primary subset with at least one of a second size or a second color, wherein the second size is larger than the first size and the second color is brighter than the first color.

38. A method comprising:

outputting, by a computing device, for display in a first arrangement, a respective graphical element for each of a plurality of functions, wherein the first arrangement comprises the respective graphical element for a first function from the plurality of functions positioned at a center region of a display device and the respective graphical element for each of the plurality of functions other than the first function positioned at a perimeter region of the display device around the center region;

obtaining, by the computing device, contextual information associated with the computing device;

determining, by the computing device, based at least in part on the contextual information, a second function from the plurality of functions of the computing device that is more relevant to the contextual information than the first function and each other function of the plurality of functions; and

outputting, by the computing device, for display in a second arrangement, the respective graphical element for each of a plurality of functions, wherein the second arrangement comprises the respective graphical element for the second function positioned at the center region of the display device and the respective graphical element for the first function and each other function of the plurality of functions positioned at the perimeter region of the display device around the center region.

39. The method of claim 38, wherein the respective graphical element for each of a plurality of functions is output for display in the second arrangement in response to determining, by the computing device, that the contextual information is indicative of a change in location of the computing device or a change in activity associated with a user of the computing device since the respective graphical element for each of the plurality of functions was output for display in the first arrangement.

40. The method of claim 38, further comprising:

determining, by the computing device, based on the contextual information, at least one of a location of the computing device or an activity associated with a user of the computing device, wherein determining the second function comprises determining that the second function is associated with at least one of the location or the activity.
