Abstract

The present invention relates to methods for delivering at least one agent unto or into a biological sample or a biological subject. The methods comprise a step of contacting the biological sample or subject with a payload-carrying nanostructure. The nanostructure can be a porous low density nanostructure.

Claims

1. A composition comprising a payload-carrying nanostructure and a biological sample.

18. The composition of claim 1, wherein the payload-carrying nanostructure has a payload.

19. The composition of claim 18 wherein the payload-carrying nanostructure has been delivered into or onto the biological sample.

20. The composition of claim 19 wherein the payload is selected from the group consisting of a targeting moiety, a binding partner, a detectable agent, a biological active agent, a drag, a therapeutic agent, a radiological agent, a chemological agent, a small molecule drag, a biological drag and any combination thereof.

21. The composition of claim 20 wherein the biological sample is a cell, a tissue, organ, or an animal.

2. A method of delivering at least one agent unto or into or onto or cross a biological sample comprising a step of contacting a biological sample with a payload-carrying nanostructure.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the nanostructure has magnetic property so as to enhance the delivery using magnetic interaction.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the payload-carrying nanostructure comprises a first payload.

The method of claim 4, wherein the first payload is selected from the group consisting of a targeting moiety, a binding partner, a detectable agent, a biological active agent, a drug, a therapeutic agent, a radiological agent, a chemological agent, a small molecule drug, a biological drug and any combination thereof.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the payload-carrying nanostructure further comprises a second payload.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the first payload and the second payload are randomly or orientedly distributed in the nanostructure.

8. The method of claim 4, wherein the first payload is selected from the group consisting of a targeting moiety and a binding partner.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein the second payload is selected from the group consisting of a detectable agent, a biological active agent, a drug, a therapeutic agent, a radiological agent, a chemological agent, a small molecule drug, a biological drug and any combination thereof.

10. The method of claim 2, wherein the surface of the nanostructure is modulated with molecular entities that facilitate the delivery function, wherein as the entities improve specific targeting functions, reduce non-specific association, or adjust the density of payloads on surface.

11. The method of claim 2, wherein the size of the nanostructure is tailored from 1 nm to 1000 nm to optimize its delivery function.

12. The method of claim 2, wherein the charge of the nanostructure is tuned to optimize its delivery function.

13. The method of claim 2, wherein the nanostructure is biocompatible and can be formed by a biocompatible component material.

14. The method of claim 2, wherein the nanostructure is biodegradable.

15. The method of claim 2, wherein the payload is released into the biological sample via electrostatic principals, biological or enzymatic interactions, or through photo, pH, thermal, or electronic sensitive bonds.

17. A method of delivering at least one agent into a target site in a subject, comprising administering a payload-carrying nanostructure into a subject, and attracting the payload-carrying nanostructure to the target site in the presence of an applied magnetic field.
